750ml bottle, batch #204, thanks Doug for bringing this one over. Poured into a Surly Darkness goblet today, 2/5/2014.
App- Dark opaque black body, 1 finger tan head that dissipates quickly, leaves some lacing and a nice collar.
Smell- Faint tart cherries and that's it. Not particularly interesting. I don't pick out any cocoa or vanilla despite the label saying it was brewed with these.
Flavour- Disappointing. Tart cherries, on the verge of being sour. But I don't get any of the base beer even as it warms up. No roast malts, no espresso, no chocolate. It's just fairly tart cherries. Disappointing even though I expected the beer to be cherry forward. I at least expected to have some more going on.
Mouthfeel- Medium-thin body, fine carbonation. Might be slightly watery actually. Aftertaste is a faint tart cherry flavour.
Overall- If I want cherries, I'd rather spend the money on Wisconsin Belgian Red. This doesn't taste like a stout at all, and is very cherry forward. Definitely one of Pipeworks' weakest offerings in my opinion. Their DIPA bombers are fantastic, but everything else I've had from them have been at least a bit underwhelming.

The beer comes in a dark black color.
The aroma has tons of chocolate, cocoa, and dark dark cherries. A bit of tart of those cherries coming through too.
The flavor follows of roasted malt, sweet cocoa, milk chocolate, and a cherry note. The slightly tart somehow just doesn't exactly meld perfectly with the chocolate and roasted malt flavors, but still a fine beer.
