A: Pours a dark, murky brown with a compact, clinging whitish head.
S: Aromas of dark bread, chocolate, and coffee fill the nose.
T: Notes of dark bread, minerals, chocolate, earthy hops, vanilla bean, coffee, and roasted nuts wash across the palate. The finish is clipped and dry with notes of chocolate and nuts dominating.
M: Light-to-medium in body, very firm, and very dry. Carbonation is very active.
O: This is a solidly crafted, authentic English-style brown ale that is capable of standing up to the likes of Newcastle and Hobgoblin. Like most browns, though, it is not the most complex beer in the world; in fact, Brown Chicken/Brown Cow is a bit one-dimensional. Still, fans of English brown ales should be more than pleased with this beer.

For all the style-specific beer enthusiasts, Brown Chicken/ Brown Cow is a decidedly and remarkable Northern Brown Ale with balanced elements of chocolate and nuts that pronounce beyond a very drinkable and lighter body.
The pint poured at the bar came with a glossy brown hue and a cascading slow layering of beer to foam as this nitro-infused beer provides a very creamy and heady topping of whip cream appearances. The beer retains its head character well as the beer fades, leaving behind rings of foam that denote each drink taken (turns out to be much fewer than I would have expected).
Mild aromas struggle to impeed the thick blanket of foam, but reveal light notes of hazelnut, chocolate, and a light malt/grain blend. Appetizing, to the nose but doing so with tamer aromatics.
The taste hold a much more complete flavor spread with the fuller flavor of walnuts, pecans, and hazelnut that complement the full chocolate flavor. A balance of soft barley grain and malty cream flavors provide the drinkability with the low-lying earthy hop bitterness to assist in finish. A surprisingly refreshing choice despite the darker and heartier profile.
Dense and creamy upon the first draw, but the beer's gas proves to be quickly fleeting and allows for again, a surprisingly light and drinkable finish. Mild alcohol warmth and slight grain textures close the beer with a timidly bitter dryness and delicate nutty aftertaste.
For anyone visiting Country Boy and looking for an authentic Newcastle or Hobgoblin experience should turn here first!
