If their ever-popular regular Jalapeno Smoked Porter is good then twice the jalapeno must be better. Since that rang true, how about thrice the jalapeno?

With all the beers in the Jalapeno Smoked Porter series, this version is opaque brown, very dark, and with glossy clarity. The beer delivers a light tan head that retains and laces fairly nicely. Oily capsasin impedes firmer character, but I don't get the sense that the extra jalapeno spice takes any further effect than does the original lower spiced variety.

Intense spicy fruit and vegetable aromas complement the smoke, coffee, and chocolate aromatics with a pungent but balanced range of aromas with a hearty focus on the jalapeno pepper. Though malty with the notion of caramel and starch provides support for the spiciness and weaves into the scent of roasted grain. The fruit complexities are all pepper and none of yeasty esters.

Flavors of malted barley, bittersweet chocolate, french-press coffee, and caramel provide the underpinning while agitation of zesty jalapeno gives a nearly bullyish vegetal zing that's a supplants any hop character. As the taste of pepper remains crazy-stupid, the clean earthy bitterness from hops hardly project beyond the light roast and coffee bitterness and pepper fruit.

Boldly rich in mouthfeel, the lighter carbonation allows the weight of the beer to rest on the palate and gives a silky, velvety feel- a great mouthfeel that avoids the prickle of carbonation and allows all the zestiness to come from the pepper heat itself. Creaminess is then crammed into a corner admidst the growing and evading heat of jalapeno with absolute dominance, firey heat, and numbing spice that exacerbates the alcohol warmth in finish.

This zestiest, spiciest, and most flavorful beer that intimidates the palate and evokes the need for a glass of milk and Tums chewibles.

This is their jalapeno smoked porter at its best, imo. Even more intense pepper flavor in a fine porter. Hope it's back this fall!
