Pours opaque brown almost black into a glass from a bottle. Light mocha head is three fingers high, foamy and creamy with good chunky retention like a wheat beer.
Aroma is like sweet rosy milk chocolate; there's a slight perfumed, aromatic character to the nose which just floats beneath the surface - something a little red berry or red liquorice-like on top of roast.
The flavour is as I would expect, quite a floral and roasted combination with plenty of stewed hops in the mix and something akin to amber raspberry. The end result is vinous coffee, smoky grain, and a little bitter umami.
Mouthfeel is smooth, with medium body, and minimal carbonation. There's a little dryness on the back end but overall a pleasant sipper with well hidden alcohol.
A bit more on the hoppy side for a black IPA, but still tasty.

330ml Bottle: BBD Mar 2014: poured into a Gordons Thistle shaped glass at home on 5 Oct 2013.
Really dark body, huge beige head.
Heavily roasted malt feel to this brew: almost burnt at times. Black coffee and dark chocolate with toffee notes in both the nose and taste. I love it when this brewery brews something like this (instead of their regular citrus tasting, golden beers), it shows they can produce flavoursome beers worthy of praise.
Most likely the best Salopian beer I've ever had: my taste buds however are vastly different to most peoples. Pouring it into a thistle shaped glass also enhanced it's appeal, to my eyes anyway.

The body is like black coffee
the head is a good inch thick and sticks
A confusing mix of notes for the nose, aspirin, wood bark, untreated liquorice root
and old fashioned washing powder
The roast sits their on the tongue way beyond its welcome
it doesn't allow the hops to good take over
the balance is wrong here
the taste is good but not right.
The mouthfeel redeems the slight irks
a good beer, not a great one.
