On tap at the Toronto Festival of Beer, same ABV and name.

Pale amber colour, nice thick white head and some rings of lace as well. Smell is buttery and malty, some piney hops, a bit of citrus, orange and grapefruit, quite a bit of alcohol coming off the nose as well. Taste is like buttered popcorn, some malt, caramel, pine and orange, bitter throughout, the butter flavours in this never subside and are very present all the way through, hint of alcohol. Medium-high carbonation, medium body. This is something I will never order again, if you like diacetyl or terrible IPA this might be for you.

Growler purchased at the brewery 4 weeks ago after an excellent brewhouse tour, without having sampled first. Sold as a "trumped up" Tankhouse, a promise on which I think it delivers, albeit without the balance and sessionability that Tankhouse offers. Don't get me wrong, I think this is the best Mill Street beer I've ever enjoyed (other than Cobblestone Stout, which is practically an institution unto itself), but certainly not an "American IPA" in the traditional "west coast" style...

Colour is a beautiful dark amber, clear and almost iridescent with a surprisingly white head. Head and lacing are both strong, which isn't often my (limited) experience from growler storage. Aroma is very malt-forward, with a distinct caramelized, crystal malt sweetness. This leads directly into the taste, which is surprisingly sweet before being stunningly bitter – and lingers impressively. Personally I don’t recognize the distinctive “cascade” notes from the overall bitterness, but the brewer was clear on that key point and I may just have my “c” hops mentally mixed up.

In short - none of the grapefruit, pine or tropical hop elements I'd associate with the "American" label, but a great Mill Street beer that I'd definitely purchase again.

To add another rench in the gears of trying to name all the new beers coming out of this place, I give you Paradise Pale Ale! Labelled as an IPA on their chalkboard, it clocks in a little higher than 2 other beers with very similar names at the brewpub. Brewed exclusively with Cascade. How lovely. From notes.

A - Poured a dark copper with no visible carbonation. Bright. One finger of white head on top left nice thick drapes of lace and a film of retention.

S - Bread, tons of cascade. Grapefruit. Smells good and lively.

T - Awesome cascade punch with grapefruit, booze, floral, and grassy notes.

M - Mild carbonation. Medium to full body. Bitter finish.

O/D - A pretty nice IPA. Very flavourful and drinkable with a huge hop kick. Nice stuff.
