From a 750 ml (brewed summer 2012) into a globe glass.

A-The brew poured with one finger of dense, off-white head. The foam was slow to fade, but did not leave any lacing. Beneath the foam, it was mostly clear and amber colored.

S-Smell was mildly tart with lemon and orange zest up front, a touch of hops, some bread-like yeasty notes, and a bit of funky wet earth. Inviting.

T-The taste was not as complex or interesting as the smell. There was a bit of lemon curd, some slick alcohol, a lot more bread dough, and just a hint of straw and white pepper towards the end. Not as much oak/barrel character as I was hoping for.

M-The brew is medium bodied with a smooth carbonation and a slightly creamy feel. Pretty much typical for the style.

O-I usually enjoy chardonnay barrel aged brews, but this one was a touch weak. The smell got my hopes up, but the flavor was a bit of a let-down. It was missing that sharp, oaky, vinous barrel component that I enjoy. That being said, I have tasted worse beers, and this would not make for a bad summertime brew, but it was spendy and did not carry my interest for very long.

A- golden, clear, persistent ring of white bubbles

S- fruity pineapple with some movie theater popcorn, a bit like some Chardonnays.

T/M- buttery, dry, lightly tart, moderate carbonation, just a touch of hoppy bitterness in the mix.

O- a very different beer. Wine like in its dryness and diacetyl but still enjoyable as a saison.

Thanks, quirkzoo!

A murky, hazy dark blonde or light orange with a moderately-sized off-white head. Decent retention and minimal lacing.

The chardonnay is more than present in the nose. If given this blind, I'd immediately say, "Chardonnay" or, more simply, "White wine." The grape and barrel influence is dominant, though when concentrating, there are other sweet elements at play as well: toffee and mild Belgian yeast presence.

The flavor is similar to the aroma, with white wine and barrel character leading the way, along with some graham cracker and toffee sweetness, and a very mild Belgian yeast character.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Slightly creamy for the style. Nice.

An interesting and fairly drinkable white wine barrel-aged saison, though the sweetness hurts it somewhat. I'd prefer it to be more dry.

Beer pours a wonderful amber color with haze and a nice white head that is readily swirled back into place.

Aroma is dominated by wine, probably from the barrel. Very pleasant with notes of pineapple and light tropical fruits. Earthy tones also accompany the fruit.

The taste fruity, vinous, some caramel, hops eathiness predominates the palate.

Smooth mouthfeel. Full bodied.

Very enjoyable beer. Wine really goes well with the funk of the yeast. Not sour but still a crisp finish. I would certainly recommend this beer to a friend.

Hazy gold color
Nose of pear, oak, barnyard funk, and a little golden raisin.
Taste is of biscuits, barnyard funk, lime zest, huge pear and tart green apple notes from the Chardonnay. With a crisp yet still creamy and off dry finish.
Mouthfeel is sharp and clean, yet smooth and medium bodied.
Overall a touch too sweet but the complexity is nice. Maybe a little less time in barrel would have done it for me. Nice overall though

Served in a wedding snifter.

Bottle #02848. Been hanging on to this bottle for a little while, just waiting to see what hides inside. It pours a clear sunset brass-amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises boozy white wine, light butter, oak, and a twinge of funky lemon rind. The taste is basically a blast of oaked chardonnay with some mild saison yeast veins coming through every so often. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda drying finish. Overall, though not all that bad, it seems as though the barrel speaks much louder than the beer itself. It's almost as if a chardonnay was aged in saison barrels.
