Appearance: pours an orange gold, with a nice fluffy but dense white head. No lacing.

Smell: of sweet malt. The wheat is readily present with a nice fruity hop aroma as well, some spice present.

Taste: nice, delicious melding of flavors! The barley and wheat malts blend together in the fore, with the hops in the background for good balance. The chardonnay barrels add a delicious light fruitiness. There are also nice vanilla notes, as well as some oak and spice.

Mouth Feel: medium to light bodied, with just a tingle of carbonation on the tongue.

Overall: an excellent ale! I have a general weakness for ales brewed with wheat, and the aging of the beer in chardonnay barrels makes it simply delectable!

Corked and caged 750 ml bottle poured into a Duvel glass. Pours a very deep gold almost going to orange/amber. Moderate haziness. Foamy creamy colored head recedes quickly. Thin layer of creamy looking bubbles left behind with some moderate lacing on the glass. Lacing disappears quickly.

Smells of white grape, mild citrus, fresh cut grass and mild oakiness.

Taste is tart grape and lemon. Chardonnay flavors from the barrel aging is very evident. Oak, leather and sour green apple. Some coriander and more lemon, almost Witbier-ish. Mild dry earthiness.

Moderate body with a dryness on the tongue. Medium carbonation gives some crispness. Flavors linger.

An excellent wine barrel aged saison. Prominent wine notes without being overpowering. Moderate body and 7.5% make this fairly easy drinking. I like the mild tartness but would prefer a touch less dryness.
