This beer is named for the first few moments of joy you get as you begin a great day of fishing on the river. As well, it was our ‘first cast’ into the fantastic Colorado beer scene! Using nearly 2 pounds of hops per barrel, this well balanced IPA has huge notes of grapefruit, citrus and pine, making it our everyday beer of choice.

I have consumed several beers from this brewery. I am sipping on a traditional IPA; it has been a while since I have drunk one. I am using a belcher pint glass, and the temperature is 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy and airy two-fingered white head with above-averaged retention. The slow dissipation left a massive amount of lacing on the glass. Examining the color of the beer, charting around SRM 6, a golden yellow. The clarity is clear and brilliant, with some carbonation activity. The appearance is above average.
Nosing the beer, I smell the typical IPA hops, floral, grapefruit, pine needles, malty sweetness, and a touch of bay leaves. Smelling the beer a couple more times, I detect a light grassy note and toasted bread. The aromas are typical for this style.
The flavors shine in this IPA. Grapefruit, oranges, pine resin, a hint of grass, floral esters, a malty sweetness, toasted bread crust, and a touch of bay leaves.
The mouthfeel is astringent and finishes crisp and dry. The body is medium-plus with medium carbonation.
A classic IPA well crafted. Fantastic beer helps bring the heat down on a hot day.

It's a very well-balanced IPA. It doesn't shout, and because it's not way out there, I suspect it doesn't get a ton of notice from reviewers. But, hey, there's nothing wrong with the missionary position, and this IPA has similar tried-and-true values.

Yep, it's an IPA. Nothing remarkable here, but nicely balanced and not overly hoppy or bitter. Doesn't really stand out for me compared to may of their other beers, but then again, I'm not much of an IPA guy. Had it as part of the sampler pack and preferred the other three offerings more than this one, but not unhappy that it was included. Good to try, but would go for their other stuff first.
