Smell: Malty with hints of caramel
Taste: Medium bitter, some toffee, hints of citrus (grapefruit?) and copper, slightly dry finish
Feel: Medium body, light carbonation,
Overall: An above average beer, slightly complex. Will drink again.

Had poured from a can at bar into a cold mug. Look was a gold amber color, with only one finger of foam that dissipated quickly. Smell was light matlyness. Taste was of a mild maltyness, and some caramel notes. Feel was light with mild carbonation. Overall a very easy to drink beer, but did not have any notable characteristics.

Dark amber with gold tinted head that holds up well. Smells heavy of malt with some spicy notes. The taste is surprisingly hoppy. It’s a strong bittering hop that does a good job of balancing the malt but doesn’t really add much flavor or aroma. Its not my favorite but it’s a good change of pace.

Tried it again on 08/11/18. It is very similar to Bass pale ale, but better. More of a burnt carmel toffee flavor. Definitely better than Bass.

I haven’t had this for some time now. I’d forgotten how much toasted flavor this has.
It’s malty but has a strong (magnum) hops hit that counteracts the heavy malts. It’s not really sweet at all. Definitely one of the better amber ales.

Very drinkable, I enjoy this more every time I try it. It is in another universe compared to Yeungling. Anyone comparing it to the macro east coast fraud is a troll. I think Yeungling is ok but it’s not even close to being as good as 1836. Unless, you have a fairly unsophisticated palette.

Nice copper color and decent head. Not much smell but a bit floral. Tastes like copper. But kinda smooth and easy going down. Could be a session beer.

Can purchased at a beer store in Austin, TX.

"Copper ale." 5.7% ABV.

Pours a frothy off-white head atop a copper (indeed...) body. Appears filtered. No yeast/lees are visible within. Seems well-carbonated judging by the ~4 minute retention.

Aroma is emphatic of malts; I'm getting amber malts - possible Vienna or CaraMunich? Hop profile is mild in intensity and herbal in character.

Texture is creamy, medium-bodied, smooth, wet, and well-carbonated. Somewhat refreshing.

Herbal hop flavours merge with amber malts (not Vienna, but probably Munich) to good effect, with 2-row filling out the malt bill. Simplistic but well-balanced. Lacks the toastiness one finds in many amber malt based beers and the hop profile is uninteresting but it's nicely built for what it is.

I might prefer Yuengling in terms of American amber beers, and the faint fruity esters imparted by the ale yeast used in this don't elevate it above amber lagers like Yuengling. This is certainly in the same camp in terms of simple drink-it-by-the-pitcher-with-pizza amber beers, and I'd prefer a more assertive pungent hop profile as well as some toastiness if this wants to compete with amber ales. Taken in stride as a "copper ale" it's not bad stuff, and one could do worse than a sixer of this for ~$8.99. Drinkable but unremarkable, 1836 is a competently brewed ale but not one I'd knowingly purchase again given the myriad superior amber malt based ales in the market.

Appearance: Hazy copper color, with a lot of suspended carbonation. The large, dense white head soon fades to a scattering of foam on the surface. Scattered, patchy lacing rings the glass wall.

Aroma: Prominent citrus rind, as well as a strong note of toasted malt, quite pleasant.

Taste: Open with robust citrus hops, tending toward grapefruit and lemon rind. Soon after, substantial toasted malt presents, this carries the taste throughout, although the hops remain notable throughout. The ABV of 5.9% falls in the middle of the range for the style, and was not tasted or felt. Finishes with the solid malt backbone and strong hop profile intact.

Mouth feel: Soft, full, and pleasant, with just a hint of carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Really quite good, offers a lot of complexity for an example of its style. Would pair well with barbecue or smoked meats. In all, it reminds me of bolder, more robust version of New Belgium's Fat Tire Amber Ale. Buffalo Bayou 1836 is under-rated, in my opinion.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

Look: Beautiful copper color, lacy head that lasts; Smell: Citrusy; Taste: Citrusy, clean with a nice malty highlight; Feel: creamy. Overall this is a very fine ale. It's really delicious. It finishes cleanly. I believe that this ale is under-appreciated. The average BA score of 80 is way too low.
