A single hop ale, the Nugget hop expresses smooth licorice notes, subtle yet distinct, for possibly the perfect Sacramento Springtime Ale. Enjoy!

Brewed exclusively with the nugget hop grown at our hop farm in Dixon, California.

Surprisingly dark orangey amber with plenty of foam in the Ommegang chalice. Really very attractive. Pleasant flowery and grapey aroma.

Brewery rates this at 35 IBUs, and it starts out seeming not very bitter. There is some sweetness and orange marmalade flavor, and then a lingering bitter finish. There is an insistent herbal and barky, tannic feel to it. Quite resiny and dark in the back of the throat. Do they roast some of the malt for this? There’s a mellow malt taste to balance the bitter hops.

From the oz bottle purchased at Texas Liquors in Carlsbad, Calif for nine bucks, more than it is worth, I’d have to say. An interesting taste, though, and a must for hop enthusiasts wanting another single hop experience.
