Pours a dark brown with a golden amber edge. The first pour from the jug is quite sudsy with a handsome beige head. Less carbonated in the mouth than the average brew.
There is a slight sourish edge from the charred grains, perhaps more noticeable since this is less sweet than a lot of Porters. Some toasted nut flavors to go with the dark roast malt. There is just a whiff of hop flavor.
Overall a smooth and simple dark brew with a grainy, tart edge and a bitterish aftertaste. Not a notable beer but certainly drinkable. From the 32 oz growlerette purchased at the Bellingham Food Co-op.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a lightly translucent slightly reddish black, with just a thin cap (1/8 inch or a bit less) of tan head that had surprisingly good sticky lacing.
A light bit of roast was at the front of the aroma, and behind it was a solidly pleasing grainy malt scent. The flavors were very similar, a bit malty sweet at the front and gentle roast that lingered at the end.
The body was fairly typical for the style, perhaps a touch on the light side of medium, and was smooth and well-rounded. Drinkability was very good, this would be a great choice for one of our many rainy days. Overall, a very good example of the style. Not groundbreaking, but solid and enjoyable in every aspect. Worth your time if you see it.
