Had on tap at Brewery Ommegang

A - Pours a purple to red with visible carboantion and a bubbly head.

S - Smells of raspberries and strawberries. Very sweet with a cotton candy aroma.

T - Taste does not disappoint. Extremely sweet with a slightly tart finish. Raspberry flavor is strong and does not taste artificial. Just a treat on tap.

M - The sweetness makes this a sipper. Light but quite carbonated. Sweetness clings to the tongue.

O - A taste framboise that is great for people who like dessert wines and want to try something new. Also I find it good as a reset beer to change the pace from a steady amount of hoppy, malty beers. Enjoy it occasionally.

Picked this bottle up in DC. Served in a Russian River "TION" goblet.

Pours a muddy brown color with a low off-white head and not much lacing or anything like that. The nose brings a tad bit of raspberry and a bit of a tea-like character. Flavor brings a bit of tea and light raspberry. Quite odd and not very tasty, unfortunately. Not everything works together, and the base beer doesn't quite work with the raspberry. Light body and some tea-like tannic character. Decent, but not something I would come back to.

375ml corked and caged bottle poured into a palm tulip. Dated cage reads: LFR 06/2017 B7164 which leads me to believe that this is a 2007 vintage.

A - When I popped the cork it didn't seem too lively. A quick, but even pour yielded a white head that faded quickly. Some chunks flowed into the glass even though I stopped pouring with 2 or so ounces left. First off, this beer is pretty clear. Which lets the sediment and yeast float around and become quite visible. The body is a deep purple color with bits off white yeast that are really taking their time to settle back down.

S - Raspberries and sugar. Its not fake and artificial, its just like very concentrated sweet, sweet raspberry syrup. No "funk" to speak of.

T - Sweet natural raspberry syrup. There is this aftertaste, that almost seems savory. I can't describe what it tastes like, but it makes the aftertaste slightly odd but still approachable. Very easy drinking, and the carbonation is quite nice. Slightly tart but certainly not sour.

O - I've picked up a few older liefmans vintages because they are priced really well, and they succeed in what they are. This isn't a lambic based traditional framboise, its an oude bruin brewed with raspberry juice. This particular vintage might be a bit past its prime, but its still refreshing and a decent fruit beer.

375ml green bottle poured into a Jacobins geueze lambic glass.

A. A clear, autumnal red beer with a nice, slightly cream coloured head.

S. Aromas of a freshly opened jar of raspberry jam and raspberry flavoured syrup.

T. Raspberry tarts.

M. Fairly thin bodied.

D. A not too sour frambozen. Could be a nice learning curve on the way to fully understanding/appreciating 'sours'.

Opened the other day to share with some dudes. Beer is kind of a dirty brown with a minimal head with no staying power and moderate / steady carbonation. Looks good.

Aroma is sweet with raspberries and mildly funky (although not as funky as the kriek). Kind of smells like seeds.

Beer is much more fruit forward than I expected. Tastes really good. There is a lot of sweetness from the fruit followed nearly immediately by some mild funk and woodiness. The beer is thin overall and has a dominant fruit presence. Very nice.

Bottle shared by drabmuh. Thanks Matt!

2008 vintage

The beer is a sunburst brown / orange color. The head is thin and wispy, leaving barely a trace of lacing on the glass. The aroma is initially rather subdued, with a slight mustiness and scents of berries. As the beer warms, the aroma grows in intensity. The flavor is very fruit forward, with a large dose of slightly sweet raspberries, followed by more subtle notes of funk and a mild tannic character. The finish is nice and brings some funkiness. This is an enjoyable fruit beer in the Flanders style.

2006 vintage, 4.5%, purchased in Quebec.

A: Hazy amber-brown, off-white head, almost no retention, hints of lace.

S: Raspberries & hints of funk.

T: Raspberry, dry biscuit, light sweetness & tartness, a little grass & leather.

M: A little thin, light residual sweetness, very little acidity.

D: An easy drinker.

A - Dark ruby violet hued brown color with a small, foamy violet tinted head that disappears fairly fast with very little lacing.

S - Very enjoyable, strong raspberry aroma. Tart and just hints of sweetness, but not really fake fruit/sweet smell. Some yeast and maybe just a bit of lemon rind. Raspberries really prominent, but enjoyable and not fake smelling.

T - A lot of raspberry flavor with there being some sweetness and some tartness. More sweet than tart, but it isn't overly sweet or an artificial sweet flavor like some fruit beers. A bit like a watered down raspberry juice. Some yeast and beer like flavors, but definitely raspberry-centric.

M - Light body with a healthy carbonation. Thin and watery with a bit of a sticky, drying finish. A little fizzy and prickly mid sip.

D - Easy to drink if you want a fruity drink. Has enough beer like qualities and isn't so sweet that it's overwhelming. Very thin and watery, so that makes it a bit easier to drink as well.

Notes: ABV = 4.5%. Not a bad fruit beer. A lot of raspberry flavor with more sweetness, but just a touch of tartness. Luckily this one isn't overly sweet. Nice beer and worth trying if you like raspberries. A bit too much like watery juice for me to fully enjoy, but it isn't too bad.

Appears a dark brown but light reveals it to be a mahogany brown pout. A small, dense tan head dissipates to nothing.

The aroma isn't bad with a malty sweetness playing against a hint of funk. The dominant note is sweetened raspberry which is almost candy like.

Definitely a sweet sour. Tart cherries combine with some lactic. Again, it's tasty but the sweetness makes this reminiscent of a Chinese sweet and sour dish.

Medium-light body with a crisp, moderately high carbonation is good and accents the fruit flavours.

As you can probably tell, I'm split about this beer. The flavours underlying the whole thing are good but the post fermentation addition of sugar to sweeten the beer is unwanted and unneeded. On the whole, it's a decent beer and one which is fairly approachable for a sour.

This beer comes in an attractive pink wrapping which just peels off to reveal a champagne styled corked green bottle,it pours a dark cherry colour with average carbonation which leaves a half finger head and hardly any lacing at all,the aroma is strongly dominated of fresh ripe raspberries and some cherry,it has an above average mouthfeel with a beautiful sweet raspberry tarty start that finishes with a nice acidic semi mouth puckering finish but not overly sour and very enjoyable,im not sure this is in the right category but for me it is definately one of the best examples in this style that ive tasted for ages and will buy again.

A corked 375ml bottle poured into a flute glass. The ale appears a hazed crimson/purple color with about two fingers of fizzy light pink foam. Nose and flavor consist of fresh tart raspberries, black raspberry jam, raspberry puree, earthy yeast, sweet, sour, tart, black currants, some breadiness and caramel. Nicely effervescent with a medium body. Crisp and quenching. Never too sweet. Very nice!
