A paper-wrapped, corked & caged 750 mL bottle; from the Ommegang general store. In a snifter.
A: The ale is dark, red colors standing out amongst the brown, let's call it a crimson color all things told. A white head, closer to off-white, is a wispy band.
S: The nose has sour cherries, soft with an aroma that could pass for apple butter. The tartnes isn't biting, just a pleasant aspect hanging over everything.
T: Cherries, sweet and sour upfront, set the tone for the entire beer. As the tartness ebbs, darker malts stand in, carrying the load. Oak adds flavor, vanilla sublety. Very low in alcohol, an added bonus after that last train wreck. The sweet bite of the sour cherries is divine, a well-made Belgian ale.
M: Well carbonated with the apple butter bite of sour cherries. A good pairing with flank steak tonight - delicious. An excellent offering from Liefmans.

Visual: Color consists of a cloudy red color. Almost looks like a creamy red. Clarity is foggy, you cannot see through the beer. Head is a light pink in color and sticks around for a long time.
Aroma:Incredibly strong aroma of fruits with cherries dominating the smell. Other smells consist of citrus, with sour and sweet notes.
Taste:The first taste is sour and a bit dry, the citrus presents itself and then fades in the sour/sweet taste with a hint of oak. This beer is like a sour patch kid, first it is sour and then it is sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium body but not too thick with still plenty of flavor
Overall: I fell in love with this beer at a local pub called Pale Nine Ale House in San Diego. This was the beer that developed my love for sour beers. I find this beer to be a refreshing change from most other beers. It is the perfect combination of sour tastes and fruity tastes for me.
