Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a reddish-pink color with a white head. The aroma is very fruity and syrupy smelling. While it is very fruity smelling, no one fruit really stands out.

The flavor is heavy on the strawberries and cherries with some other fruits added. I have no idea what billberrys or elderberries taste like, so they may be what I am tasting.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Clear, dark ruby. Moderate pink head. Slightly oily and sticky.

Incredibly sweet aroma. Smells like cherry and rapsberry Kool Aid. Not a lot of complexity or yeast character to it. This is pretty much fruit and simple syrup.

A sticky and sweet Cherry/Raspberry/Cranberry Kool-Aid with alcohol. Sticky and syrupy. Flavors taste artificial, even the fruit. Nothing comes together well here.

Medium to thick in body with minimal carbonation. Syrup-like.

I couldn't drink more than a few sips of this overly-sweet concoction.

A 250ml bottle with a BB of April 2012. The label states that it contains 15% fruit (cherry, raspberry, bilberry, elderberry and strawberry) along with sugar and sweetener.

Poured into a Stella chalice. A clear bright red colour with good carbonation. Hard pour creates a thick head of light pink foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a surface layer. A powerful fruity aroma - primarily raspberry and cherry. Smells sweet and slightly tart; reminiscent of fruit yoghurt.

The taste is very sweet and syrupy, with lots of fruit. Cherry and raspberrry dominate. Some acidity, but none of the complex yeasty tartness that comes from a quality kriek. The fruit flavour has an artificial feel to it - more like juice than whole fruit. Mouthfeel is crisp and tingly with mild astringency. Leaves a sweet fruity aftertaste.

Drinkable, and refreshing on a hot day like today, but doesn't touch the better examples of the style (including Liefmans kriek). The acidity is quite nice, but it's more like fizzy fruit juice than beer. I can understand why the brewers have created this, but other belgian fruit beers are much more rewarding.

Liefmans has a pretty solid reputation, which is why I bought this beer on a whim without first doing some research (should've checked reviews on BA on my phone before I bought this). This beer was disappointing. It started good with a beautiful dark cherry color and cute pink foam with great lacing. The the beer smelled like cherry candy and plastic-y phenols. The beer is very fruity, black cherries, raspberrys and especially strawberries are easily identified but it is unfortunately also artificially sweeted that leaves a metallic aftertaste. There is a weird bitterness that I'm not sure if it's from the sweeteners or the fermentation. I would not buy this beer again. It wasn't too bad at $9/bottle, but there are much better fruit beers for the price including others made by the same brewery.

snifter filled from large bottle

Pours a nice clear light red with a medium but sudsy white cap. Head has very good retention.

Sweet fruity smell, about as expected, but an underwhelming vague fruit flavor, a bit too much sweetness, and an unremarkable mouthfeel. Leaves the aftertaste of a fruity dessert.

This did not compare favorably with the Lindemann's Framboise I had just before trying the Liefmans. The former had a markedly more powerful aroma and flavor and a better mouthfeel. Still, this has no major flaws and is a serviceable substitute for a better lambic, particularly as a dessert brew.

(Served in a tulip glass)

A- This beer pours a clear red body that is slightly dense and a pink hued sticky foam head that last a good bit. There are some small bubbles gliding to the surface.

S- The aroma is 100% red jello, which I have not had since childhood, with notes of artificial cherry and raspberry syrup qualities that becomes a bit medicinal in the finish with hints of lindeman's cough drops.

T- The red jello flavor is full and bright with a blend of artificial cherries and raspberry syrup and a sweet finish that has a hint of bitterness to it.

M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a tight fizz prick that helps to crisp up the finish a bit.

O- This is red jello in a glass. The fruit flavors are strong and artificial becoming more medicinal as the beer opens up. There is a full sweetness but it never becomes cloying. One glass is enough for me.

I tried this at an event along with Goudenband and Cuvee Brut. Notes are recent and thorough.

This clear, deep dark red colored beer forms a pink head a finger in height that stays around for longer than I expect, never quite dropping off and leaving some more than decent spotting on the glass.
This is one fruity beer, and a nice mix of lightly sour, tart, and candy sweet, especially on the tongue. The aroma offers a little more as far as grains, but not too much. There's a bit of must in the nose but, again, not too much. Once on the tongue, the best descriptor I can think of for the inital flavor is fruit snacks (and I love fruits snacks). Yes, definitely a bag of mixed flavor fruit snacks before going gently sour, the sweetness diminishing but never fading away. As for being a technically good beer, there may be some debate. Delicious, though, yes; sort of another guilty pleaure for me. I can't technically give it as high a score as far as quality of brewing, but I like it regardless.

250ml bottle, made with myriad dark fruits, and apparently aged over cherries.

This beer pours a crystal clear, bright rusty red colour, with one finger of foamy, creamy, and bubbly pale pink head, which leaves some decent peaked lace around the glass as it quickly melts away.

It smells strongly of mildly musty fruit juice - sweet cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, mostly - candy sugar, a bit of non-boozy alcohol presence, and a nearly imperceptible pale and wheaty graininess. The taste is sweet barley grain, sugary, and moderately acidic blended fruit juice - mostly the dominant cherry and strawberry from the 'fruit bill' on the label's ingredient list. Very much like sparkling wine well soaked in the aforementioned fruit, this is.

The carbonation is rather soft, just a minor, lulling frothiness, the body a tepid medium weight, and of course in the sugary fruit sense, but not at all cloying, the natural acidic crispness seeming to aid in this regard, rendering perhaps the suggestion of a benign smoothness. It finishes sweet, natch, with some fruit pith and weak grainy malt off-set.

Another fruit beer, where the 'fruit' part is taken to its logical end. If the fruit is added during the brewing process, the character is retained, fermenting out the inherent physical nuances in the resultant beverage. Added after, and you get this - a beer-ish fruit drink. Easy enough to put back, yeah, just like Jolly Ranchers are easy enough to mindlessly enjoy.

750ml bottle poured into 2 Lindeman's flutes. My wife likes sweet lambic like Lindeman's so we thought we would give this a shot.

A- Dark rose color. Fluffy white head with nominal lacing.

S- Like sweet cherry kool-aid. The "sweetener" is apparent.

T- An interesting blend of different fruits... however it still taste like kool-aid. It does not have the traditional sour characteristics of good lambic and does not have any noticeable hop presence.

M- Average to kind of thin. Bubbles are average.

D- Really smooth, however it has an aftertaste. Alcohol is not very noticeable.

Liefmans Fruitesse
750 ml., corked & caged.
No apparent freshness date
$9.99 @ Wine Legend, Cherry Hill, NJ

It pours a clear, ruby colored body beneath a short-lived head of white that falls readily to a thin collar. Surprisingly, some nice thick splashes of lace are left behind.

In the aroma and in the flavor I get sweet cherries (think Maraschino), "Sweet Tart" candies, and a bit of chalkiness - that's it. It's sweet, but not overbearingly sweet as there is some tart dryness to it; and it somehow finishes with a low enough level of sweetness that it doesn't become cloying. The tartness rounds it out.

In the mouth it's medium bodied with a dextrinous edge and a bristling carbonation.

Overall, a very nice fruit beer that's a little bit more than one sided. It doesn't have the complexity of a geueze, but it's a nice introduction to the style.

Thinnish pink head, pink-red body, clearish.

Nose is mostly cherry, slightly tart, and a bit of red currant. Or kinda like a slurpee.

Taste is also mostly cherry, but there's also sugary strawberry. It's almost overpoweringly, syrupy sweet.

Barely enough carbonation to keep it from being syrup.

It's intense-- total dessert beer.

2010 vintage. Foiled, corked, and caged bottle poured into a Brew York City pint glass. Shared by schen9303.

Pours a 1 finger foamy pink head with poor retention. Beer is a clear bright red. No lacing. Average for the style.

The descriptions says this beer is a blend of red fruits (strawberry, raspberry, and cherry). Nose is just a red jolly rancher. Very robust but singular.

Opens sweet. Strawberry and cherry. Raspberry isn't really detectable. A touch of tartness towards the middle. And very fruity and sweet the whole way through. Finish and aftertaste are just like the rest of the experience.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Prickly and bubbly in the mouth and goes down soft and a touch grainy. Finish is slightly messy with a lingering sticky aftertaste. Again, average.

A pretty standard fruit beer that is just a touch too sweet for my taste. Still not bad by any means and worth a try if you're a fan of the style.
