Formerly Fruitesse.

This sparkling appetiser beer, with its pale red colour, is at its very best in the stylish, playful Liefmans glass. Enjoy the fresh, intense flavour of strawberries, raspberries, black cherries, elderberries and blueberries.

Bubbling, sparkling and brim-full of fruity flavours, what more could you want for the final touch to a night out? And for a refreshing change, why not try it served on the rocks…

8.5 oz bottle into a small glass, served on the rocks. Holy

Appearance: Pours a clear pink color. The head is a finger high and...uh...pink in shade. Even on the rocks, it has a good texture and retention. A tiny ring of lacing sticks to the glass. For what it is, it looks pretty damn good. (4)

Smell: HOLY SWEET SUGARY CHERRIES, BATMAN. That's really all it is: cherries and sugar. It comes close to verging on cough syrup territory, unfortunately. And that's about it. It is what it is, folks. (2.75)

Taste: Yep. Cherries. Sugar. Slight vanilla cream, and maybe some cough syrup...yeaaaaaaaah. (2.5)

Mouthfeel: Being on the rocks dilutes it some - in other words, it cuts through the sweetness a bit. It also cuts down the carbonation some. I suppose I should be impressed by how big in flavor (read: sweetness) it is for 3.8%... (2.5)

Overall: Well, I can safely say I haven't had anything like this. But take away the "on the rocks" gimmick, though, and it's just another cherry beer - ridiculously sweet and even kind of artificial, yet appealing enough to those who happen to enjoy this style. I won't be returning to it again, though. (2.5)

2.65/5: Not my bag, baby

April 2011: 250 ml bottle, as Liefmans Fruitesse, from the foreign beer bar at the Darlington Spring Thing Beer Festival. ABV is 4.2%. Brewed with 15% fruits. Beautiful red colour, moderate pink head. Strong sweetish aroma of cherries and mixed berries, also notes of fruit candy. Sweet fruity flavour, like a fruit soda, fruit candy notes galore. Tasty, but there is nothing here to remind you that this is a beer.

I find it difficult to call it a beer...... however in South Africa we do have a name for it which some Dutch or Flemmish members may understand, we call it a "pophuis bier", loosely translated: "dollhouse beer" simply meaning chicks dig it!

My wife absolutely loves it, so I had to try one. It is delicious I must say. Very fruity, but nice. Sweet, almost like a sweet red wine, but with carbonation.

Lovely on the rocks and feels like summer. Expensive in South Africa, but worth it..... for a pophuis bier.

Poured from a 250ml bottle. It has a raspberry red body, and a small pink head with some lacing.

The aroma has cherries, strawberries, raspberries and caramel to it, with a slight unpleasant cattiness to it.

The taste is mildly sour and sweet, with cherries, strawberries and raspberries, but with a slight artificial tone. Good amount of carbonation.

Light, sweet and enjoyable.

Cerveza rojiza, de cuerpo medio y de carbonatación media. Aroma a jarabe de cereza y frambuesa. En boca no es tan dulce como imaginaba sino un poco mas agria pero de todos modos es fácil de beber.

The label said I should pour it over ice, so I did.

It's a very pretty pale pink, a fizzy as soda pop, with a wonderfully retentive rose-colored head.

The aroma is gentle and variegated. Just--this might not make sense, but it smells like pinkness: fruity softness, the sweetness of cherries and strawberries only without the sharper, sour bite that usually accompanies such fruits. It's wonderful.

It doesn't taste quite as good as it smells, but it's still a lovely beer. Pink fruit up front, some sour funk in the middle, and a chewy, yeasty finish.

A bit weak by today's standards, sure, but overall an exquisitely brewed beer.

Poured it over ice. Looks great pink with huge fine head. This not much of a beer, but at the same time very drinkable and fruity. Ideal on a hot day in the early afternoon.

2017 Draught Thirsty Monk AVL Bright strawberry and cherry. Not as sweet as expected. Finish lingers aided by medium carbonation. Much better on draught. 4.2% ABV
