First had: cask offering at TH
Much like it's non-casked counterpart, this beer was a solid brown-black liquid, but this version had a much more luscious head, nearly two inches of solid tan foam that lasted right until the end of the session, coating the glass with thick lace. Roasty aroma, dark malts and coffee, light herbal and vegetal notes, but the vanilla didn't really come out much. It did manifest itself a bit more in the taste, but it was still on the subtle side, which I didn't mind at all, again, more vegetal than sweet, probably kept in check by the overall roastiness of the brew; good dark malt profile, with a dose of smooth coffee, finishing with a mild, earthy bitterness. The cask really improved the mouthfeel on this beer, smooth and lush; medium body bordering on full. Was this really 8.5%? Because it sure didn't seem like it. Nice!
