First had: cask from TH
So this was the on-tap version of CItKLP, cask-conditioned on more vanilla and toasted coconut. Now I have to say, I much preferred the cask CItKLP to the tap...that full-blown no-nonsense pie flavor really came out in the cask, whereas it was pretty subdued on tap. It just seems that "cask" is the way to go for the full effect of a beer like this. So, while the original beer I thought was better than this, this, in turn, I thought was better than the on-tap version. But enough circular reasoning, on to the review.
Pumped into an imperial pint, a completely opaque and murky burnt orange color, with a splotchy layer of foamy white head that never completely dissipated. Light, spotty lacing. Aroma of vanilla, pale malts, whipped cream, citrusy hops. Like I said the taste wasn't like being hit in the face with a pie like the original was, but there was still a good sensation of key lime in there, limes melding with the citrusy hops, cakey (pie-y?) malts, vanilla cream, light notes of graham cracker. The coconut barely came out at all at first, but the cask was actually pretty cold, and when the beer came up in temperature, the coconut revealed itself, though it still took a back seat to the other flavors. Body was medium, mouthfeel was smooth and creamy, carbonation was on the lower side, appropriately. Tasty!
(But can I dream that they'll do that original cask version EXACTLY the same again?)
