Black Barleywine brewed with clementine juice and zest. Conditioned atop heaps of Pennsylvania black walnuts for many moons.

thanks to tenderbranson69, my brother for sharing this on New Years Eve, enjoyed chilled in a goblet from the growler.
The color is an opaque black with medium tan head with average sized bead, lace sticks in spots. The smell is not pleasant, however it is not horrible either -just strange with dirty walnut skin and slight tangy aroma. The feel is okay with moderately full body with mild carbonation and subtle tangy yeast with mild tannin or acidic quality from the citrus.
The taste is okay even knowing what went into this it seems like a strange mix of flavors with the earthy nutty and citrus tangy almost juicy quality and alcohol combo it kind of has a gin type spice and citrus peel quality. Overall I was glad I got to try this since the Melvins are one of my favorite bands, but I am not sure I would want to have this again

Sorry but this isn’t a barleywine, it’s either a stout or imperial black ale or simply a strong ale. Pours jet black with tan head. Smells of walnuts, earthiness, and hints of light roast/coffee/chocolate. Ever subtle notes of citrus in the nose. Tastes like a dry stout with enough dry roast and subtle hints of chocolate & coffee. Citrus flavors linger in the aftertaste. Drinks fairly easy with just a touch of bitterness and seems about medium. For 10% ABV this beer is well brewed with no hints of alcohol or warming characteristics. I’m about 50/50 with this beer. I don’t think the concept quite works but the execution is pretty good.

Not your typical barleywine.
This is from the 12-20-17 release, one day after it was canned, so it’s gonna need some time to settle.
Poured clean with a small head into a proper dimpled mug.
First sip a strong fresh walnut taste aroma. Reminiscent of smelling a crushed black walnut long after it fell from the tree and you smashed it with a Louisville.
The aroma is persistently citrus with a deep complexity that varies according to your surroundings. In pleasant indoor company it was dark and woody but by the fire it was fresh and herbal.
The see-saw balanced experience this beer provided continued from there.
First taste was a sip of orange juice, caramel, walnut, chocolate, vanilla and a touch of fresh oak. During each sip you can focus on the chocolate, walnut or winey alcohol notes against the omnipresent, lingering, nostalgic flavor of eating too many different flavors of dum dums in one sitting. Tastes better than it sounds. But there’s just enough depth to keep the mandarin notes grounded. Fresh but old. Bright but dark. Strong, but thin.
The St. Oner Witch carefully chooses her victims.

On draft in a tulip.
L - deep brown, black color. No head. Ring of foam around the glass.
A - clementine, coffee, and dark chocolate. Clementine really hits you in the tulip.
T - chocolate, coffee, clementine, smooth nutty, dark chocolate finish. Awesome!
F - tastes like a stout, thick like stout. A bit boozy, nice cold weather big beer feel
O - I'm giving this all 5s because everything they put into this beer is there. Really blew me away. I tend to stray away from fruit beers but the clementine was an excellent touch. Really rounds out the beer. Cheers!
