On tap at the brewpub on 7/25/12. Served in an 8oz tulip.

Pour: hazy orange with a finger and a half off white head that recedes to a film and rim.

Smell: Belgian yeast and biscuit notes. Great grapefruit also comes through.

Taste: Reverses the order of the nose with grapefruit and pine up front, and biscuity malt and Belgian yeast following up. An amazing combination.

Mouthfeel: Great body, with velvety carbonation. Bitterness lingers mildly.

Overall: An incredible hybrid that takes my favorites characteristics of saisons and IPA's. Maybe my favorite beer of the visit.

On tap at Tired Hands.

Pours cloudy, brilliant orange, fluffy white head that settles down slowly; creamy lacing. Looks good! Aroma of tropical and citrus fruits; that house saison yeast and all its attendant ester-y notes; spice and pepper; lesser piney quality.

A very nice blend of a contemporary American IPA and a Belgian saison; initially I wasn’t a fan of this hybrid style but more and more brewers are getting it right. Tired Hands certainly does, which should come as no surprise. The hops impart lots of orange, grapefruit, and mango notes, with a light fruity sweetness enhanced by the yeast esters and drying up completely in the finish, where the moderate bitterness lingers a bit as it fades away slowly. Again there are appealing pepper and spice notes as well as pine and floral undertones from the hops.

Medium to slightly light bodied, medium carbonation, very smooth, slightly creamy, typical draught mouthfeel for Tired Hands; extremely drinkable, highly tasty.

On Tap at Tired Hands.

HellCurse is a bright saison/IPA mix with bright gold rims with some mix of hazy orange and some yellow glow. A nice body on this, not able to see through the liquid. A bunch of bubbles forming some suds, white, semi stick. Smell is ripe with fruit mixing in with some Saison yeast, which detracts. Some pineapple, banana, bready yeast profile, faint pale malt. It smells decent. Taste is a different story. The yeast is dominate, bready, with some floral appeal. Under that the ipa ccomes out mildly with cloaked tropics. Feel is spicy with a long bready aftertaste, medium with spritzy carb, pleasant. I could only handle 4oz of this stuff, not my bag.

On-tap, 8oz pour

A golden body with a fluffy white cap. Fairly hazy. Sheeting lace coating the glass.

An IPA/Saison hybrid. Spicy phenols, some wood, and pepper co-mingling with a good amount of hops. Grapefruit, fresh flowers, and resin/oil.

The palate is similar, with hops taking the lead. Grapefruit, flowers, and pine resin over top of dry rye and wheat malt. Pepper and wood dry out the finish.

Light to medium body with good carbonation. The saison yeast brings a bunch of phenols poking through here and there. The finish is a mix of dry, spice with hoppy bitterness.

This is a beer I could drink an awful lot of. Saison and IPA are two of my favorite styles and this delivers the best of both worlds. Well made.
