on tap at the brewery
Pours an opaque blackness with a creamy froth of tanned brown head resting on top. Retains throughout most of the pour while leaving patchy lacing on the glass.
Powerful piny hops in the nose with sticky resin, tempered by a roasted, full, dark malt presence. Caramel and chocolate notes with alcohol warmth.
Biting hop bitterness right up front, driven by pine and faint citrus. Thick malty backbone with roasted dark malts, chocolate, caramel and bread crust. Continuing bitterness and pine towards the dry finish with a spike of boozy heat.
Fuller medium body, well carbonated, a bit creamy and sticky on the tongue. Admittedly, I'm not typically a fan of black IPAs (or whatever you want to call them), but this was still a really tasty beer.

draft at the brewpub, review entered from notes
Eight ounce serving, the beer is pitch black in color, sporting an intense head that doesn’t quit, leaving heavy lace. The nose and palate feature a range of dark, black malt character: charred roast and bitter cocoa most upfront. Pungent dark pine hop character - sappy on the nose and heavily bitter on the palate. Some underlying sweetness in a small dose - maybe a bit of the honey and some caramel. Heavy bodied and lightly carbonated. It’s a big beer, but not overpowering - enjoyed.

First had: on tap at the brewpub
Dark black pour, seemingly opaque, with a creamy tan head that lasted forever and left nice lacing on the glass. Nose was dominated by resinous hops, lesser notes of slightly roasty malts came out as the beer approached room temperature, but definitely much less than an average CDA. The taste mirrored the aroma pretty much, piney hops playing the major role, lesser notes of citrus pith, mellow-enough roasty malts, with a nice balance of local honey, the sweetness of which took the edge off a bit, making the malts meld better with the hops, giving this a pretty smooth mouthfeel. On the fuller side of medium-bodied, and surprisingly not too boozy for an 11% brew.

Growler from Retai1LO, thanks Hayden!
A- Pours a very dark browna with a 1/4" dark tan head that leaves great lacing. It sits pitch black in the glass
S- Big piney hops and tons of dark roasty malts, looks amazing!
T- MMmmm just like the nose. Pine from the hops in front and roasty malts with some coffee coming through in the finish. Top notch!
M- Nice and smooth with carbonation getting through at the end
O- Best black ale I've ever had. Beats out Wookey Jack by a nose. Delectable

Served on-tap at the Brewpub a month or so ago, just getting around to adding this now.
A - Pours midnight black with a creamy one finger tall tan head leaving sticky trails of lace down parts of the glass.
S - Smells of dark roast, sticky sweet honey, grassy hops, pine needles and some nice chocolate malt. The hops are strong yet it has just the right amount of roast to keep it in check. A very nice nose.
T - This one is pretty roasty up front but then the grassy/piney hops come crashing though. A touch of sweetness from the honey, and even a bit of chocolate, round things out. Finish is very roasty, lingering on the palate long after the finish.
M - Medium-Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Nice creamy feel with plenty of hop bitterness and dark roast throughout. The alcohol is well hidden behind the bold flavors.
O - This was a very nice black IPA. Not the best I have had but definitely another winner from the guys at Tired Hands.

A: Pours very dark like a stout. Looks thick and creamy with little head.
S: Fantastic scent of hops and grapefruits, can't wait to try this.
T: Awesome. At first taste I can detect a little bit of stout like roastiness followed by strong hoppy bitterness and slight citrus flavors. I love the compliment of the two elements of this beer.
M: Smooth and light with little carbonation. Compliments the flavor very well.
O: One of the greatest beers I have had in a while, without a doubt.

On Tap at The Brew Cafe in Ardmore, PA.
A- ZOMBIE was split between black liquid and a frothy dark tan foam that was veering towards brown, each taking up about half of the glass. It took over five minutes for the head to die down before becoming a nice sturdy cap. The liquid is black except with light some brownish spots pop up around the edges, good lacing.
S- Very hoppy, almost reminded me of a Storm King nose when cold. Big pine and citrus. Maltier as it warms with roasted malt and some minimal coffee. Some dark fruit appeal as it warms even more. This has the nose of a black IPA and the hops beat out the malt for once, nice. A whole lot of grapefruit.
T- And as expected the hops come forth strong and piney. Getting some citrus grapefruit as well. A bit too hoppy so with some time I let the malts come up more which made for a better balance. The malts give off some fruit such as plum with some roast and sweet candy on the low side. The coffee i was getting actually is more of a burnt roast. This is a strong ale though with hops ruling and a dash of honey.
M- Bitter, bordering on being muy bitter but this strong black ale is built with a nice malt base. This provides for an easier and smoother drink when it warms. This is not a hot beer but it is a strong beer with legs. A thick body with perfect carbonation.
D- A bit off putting at first and then I remind myself i am drinking a small batch double black ale so the hops dont bother me as much now. I could not finish a lot of ZOMBIE since the ALC is mad high, but this is a tasty beverage with some Ummpphhh.
