draft at the brewpub, review entered from notes
Eight ounce serving, the beer is pitch black in color, sporting an intense head that doesn’t quit, leaving heavy lace. The nose and palate feature a range of dark, black malt character: charred roast and bitter cocoa most upfront. Pungent dark pine hop character - sappy on the nose and heavily bitter on the palate. Some underlying sweetness in a small dose - maybe a bit of the honey and some caramel. Heavy bodied and lightly carbonated. It’s a big beer, but not overpowering - enjoyed.

Served on-tap at the Brewpub a month or so ago, just getting around to adding this now.
A - Pours midnight black with a creamy one finger tall tan head leaving sticky trails of lace down parts of the glass.
S - Smells of dark roast, sticky sweet honey, grassy hops, pine needles and some nice chocolate malt. The hops are strong yet it has just the right amount of roast to keep it in check. A very nice nose.
T - This one is pretty roasty up front but then the grassy/piney hops come crashing though. A touch of sweetness from the honey, and even a bit of chocolate, round things out. Finish is very roasty, lingering on the palate long after the finish.
M - Medium-Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Nice creamy feel with plenty of hop bitterness and dark roast throughout. The alcohol is well hidden behind the bold flavors.
O - This was a very nice black IPA. Not the best I have had but definitely another winner from the guys at Tired Hands.

on tap at the brewery
Pours an opaque blackness with a creamy froth of tanned brown head resting on top. Retains throughout most of the pour while leaving patchy lacing on the glass.
Powerful piny hops in the nose with sticky resin, tempered by a roasted, full, dark malt presence. Caramel and chocolate notes with alcohol warmth.
Biting hop bitterness right up front, driven by pine and faint citrus. Thick malty backbone with roasted dark malts, chocolate, caramel and bread crust. Continuing bitterness and pine towards the dry finish with a spike of boozy heat.
Fuller medium body, well carbonated, a bit creamy and sticky on the tongue. Admittedly, I'm not typically a fan of black IPAs (or whatever you want to call them), but this was still a really tasty beer.
