Had in a 4 oz. pour from the bar, but hoping I can pick this up in a bottle before the month is over!

The beer has a dark burgundy-type color too it, with a tan head that left pretty quickly. Smell-wise, I got a lot of aromas that I wouldn't expect from a saison: dark fruits, raisins, reminiscent of a quad or a strong ale really. My sister took a whiff and said it reminded her of nail polish, so, yeah, the booze was there as well.

The beer tasted great... and just like a quad! Raisins were the most prominent taste for me, with a bit of bready flavor as well. But, again, it tasted like a quad. For the high ABV, the booze wasn't as strong as I expected given the nose.

Really enjoyed this qua-- er-- saison and hope I can grab a bottle or two before the holidays.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Great name and did a double take seeing it was a saison. Medium brown colured bottle that yields a lot of lace. Spicy, but yeasty above all. Other than pepper and some understated spices, not exception for the style. Slightly above average mothfeel.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

The name presumably a nod to Westvleteren, they labeled this beer a "dark strong saison," but it had characteristics somewhat leaning towards a quad or barleywine. I was able to sample this a few weeks before its release in uncarbonated form, but obviously this review applies to the finished product.

Chestnut brown color, hazy, with a moderate beige head that displayed decent retention and little to no lacing. Aroma of dark dried fruits, brown sugar, vanilla, earth. This packs a punch, and the alcohol heat hits you right away, though it's more felt than tasted. Raisin and fig sweetness on the palate, brown sugar, fruitcake cherries, maple, obvious Belgian yeast, a bit of tannin astringency that mellows out some as the beer warms...it's probably best to let this one sit a few minutes before drinking. Bottle aging will make this quite interesting. Body is medium-full, mouthfeel is pretty slick and warming. I'm not completely sold on this one yet, but it's still a good brew and, again, should improve more as it ages.

Review from notes.

A - Pours copper orange with a small half finger head leaving small trails of lace.

S - Sweet nose with some raisins, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla and dulled fruit rind.

T - Taste is similar to the nose in that the sweetness and saison body are the strongest flavors. A bit of fruit comes out as it warms up. Sweet, dry finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, sweet feel with a bit of booze coming thru as it warms up.

O - Tastes just like a quad with a saison core helping to bring it all together. A very interesting beer. The booze is a little stronger than I would like but it is still a solid beer.
