A - Nearly black, off-white head has good retention and lacing.
S - Some roast, chocolate, light hop aromas. Something seemed off as it warmed though, almost like dishwater to an extent, becoming more prevalent.
T - Roast is stronger with a gentle smokiness. Had I not known it smoked beforehand, I may not have picked it up. Rounds out with chocolate then a nice pine hop bitterness bite at the end. Luckily, the off-aromas didn't carry over into the taste.
M - Medium body, medium carb, finishes mostly clean and bitter.
O - Rauchbier that's not very smokey, but has a decent depth of flavor. Clean up the smell and this would be very nice.

This poured out as a nice dark brown color with a light tan head on top. The retention and lacing were pretty good on this one. The smell not appealing to me at all... Not sure why, but it just smelled like something wasn't quite right with this beer. The taste has a nice lightly smoked profile with some spicy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel of the beer was medium bodied and remains drinkable from start to finish. Overall I would have liked this a lot more but there was just something about the aroma that not only I thought but my two friends also found unsettleing. Everything else about this beer was fine though.

First had: on tap at the brewpub
"But no more gold for the traitors who possess the ancient ruins
By their untruth spells they take the world and the earth breathing fire
On the endless oil seas never ending towers of flames..."
Dark brown-black pour, with a pinky finger of foamy tan head; decent retention and lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, toasted bread, light char. Taste started off roasty light a light schwarzbier, notes of coffee and cocoa, pine needles, giving way to over-toasted pumpernickel. The smoke/char was quite mellow, which worked well. Good drinkability, body was about medium, no question about this beer being a lager, but all the flavors melded well to create something truly unique. As you would expect from Tired Hands.

Served on-tap at the Brewpub. Reviewed from notes.
A - Pours Deep brown bordering on black, creamy off white head.
S - Smells of smokey peat, roasted nuts, dark roasted chocolate malt, some piney hops and a bit of light funk? I am just not sure about this one after this nose.
T - Taste is pretty similar to the nose. Starts off with the smoke and light nuttiness slowly giving way to the chocolate malt, hops and that light funk again. Finish is smokey but not overpowering, it lingers but not for very long.
M - Heavy body with moderate carbonation. Smokey, roasted feel is just a little off-putting for some reason.
O - The flavors are decent but all over the place. Still not sure about that light funk aroma/flavor. It isn't off-putting but it kinda gets in the way of the true flavors.
