On draft at Tired Hands.

The beer is lightly hazy and golden hued with a small, white head. The aroma brings red peppers, Asian spice, a bit of peppery heat, rice wine. Additional scents of food being prepared in a wok. This should be good, but instead it's just weird. Interesting and odd. While this is an adventurous idea, this one misses the mark. Flavors overrun one another. Chaos. Nori and beer are perhaps not meant to be united in this world, unless you're talking about eating sushi and rinising your palate with Sapporo. Pass.

This poured out as a hazy yellow color with a foamy white head on top. The retention and lacing is pretty good. The smell of the the beer is yeasty with citrus aromas and some subtle spice. The smell isn't the most appealing to me. The taste is also similar to the nose, subtle spice notes with some citrus and earthy yeast. The mouthfeel is light bodied and smooth. Overall it's a decent Saison but I don't feel it's as good as some other they've made.

Body is a complex golden color, yellowish at the bottom of the glass fading to a darker brownish gold where it meets the head. The head is big, thick, and frothy. Lovely beer.

Smell is wild. I get chili peppers and nori/seaweed right off the bat, a range of odd spices I probably couldn't identify immediately if I hadn't read the ingredients list for the beer, a sweet fruity character mixed with a dry vinous spicy/yeasty character. This is really all over the place. Not sure if this is going to taste good but it's interesting to say the least.

Taste is less strange. Mostly sweet and yeasty up front, with hints of fruit and odd spices, faint chili spice is noticeable in the finish but not really before. Also some floral notes, mild citrus. The nori/seaweed character is much less apparent, have to look for it to notice it at all. Pretty decent, still interesting and unique but not as wild as I expected.

Body is thick but carbonation is surprisingly low given how big the head was.

32oz growler poured into a stemless wine glass

Pours a very soft golden color, hues of orange and light amber, slightly hazy but surprisingly clear for a saison. A nice, thick, frothy, white head arises, nearly 2 fingers high that has moderate retention but leaves minmal lacing. The aroma is very sweet, lots of funky yeast, light peppercorn, a bit of meadowy herbal aromas with just a touch of banana. I was expecting more of a spicy character here, but the sweetness is very dominant, even as it warms. The flavors are equally sweet, but have a bit more depth to them. Sweet banana and floral notes, funky yeast, cracked peppercorn which is a much more pungent element on the tongue with a bit of bitterness from what I imagine is a combination of the nori and the hops. There is a nice lingering heat, but it's extremely subtle and really enjoyable. The body is nice, a bit thinner than I expected, but coats the mouth well and has a nice full finish that goes down very smoothly.

Verdict: A very pedestrian saison from Tired Hands, but that's not to say it wasn't enjoyable. I was hoping for it to be weirder than it was, but I still appreciate the creativity here.

1L growler shared by Thorpe. Thanks!

Pours a slightly hazed light golden color with a wispy white head. Yeasty and floral aroma with black peppercorns, chilis, Asian fruit, pear and lemon. Medium body with soft carbonation. Flavor is much sweeter and fruitier than expected, with a little pepper heat in the finish.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

Poured a cloudy golden color with a small, wispy, white head; minimal retention and lacing. Peppery spice in the nose, complimenting the crisp, citrusy aroma. Following the aroma, the taste was quite peppery, with the spices taking the dominant edge over the citrus juice and zest. There was a slight prickly sensation from the hot peppers, but the beer wasn't really spicy hot at all. There was also a yeasty presence, with notes of Ramen noodles. You heard me. Light-medium body, and quite drinkable overall, but not one of their best offerings. Points for originality though.
