4oz taster pour
Enjoyed 2/28/13

A: Hazy pale yellow, straw-like color. Full finger fluffy bright white head. Leaves some nice sticky lacing. Pretty looking beer.

S: Nice hint of Brett when you get in there. Some bright citrus: lemons and light orange. Nice floral notes from the hops as well. Some graininess. It's really pleasant.

T: Getting that nice Brett funk. Some citrus like hop bitterness on the palate. Taste follows the nose, as I like the lemony flavors that I am getting on this. Malt bill is really light, and grainy. Crisp clean finish.

M: Light leading to medium.

On draft at Tired Hands.

The beer is lightly hazy and straw colored with a bit of white head. The aroma carries citrus, hay, grass, light funk, orange zest, lemon rind, hops. Smells nice. The flavor is light and smooth sailing. The brett character is there but adds a touch of funk, not dominating the other aspects of the beer. Refreshing citrus, lightly tart. Lemons and oranges with a bit of floral hops. A tasty brew for sure.

On tap at Tired Hands last weekend. Served in a wine glass. Pours a very hazy blonde straw color with a thick white head and good lacing. The nose carries nice lemon and straw plus mild funk. A bit of citrus rind. Flavor is nicely hoppy and a bit bitter. Some orange peel and lemon. Fruity and a bit of Brett in the background. Just a touch of funk. Light-medium body and good carbonation. Dry and quite drinkable. An excellent start to the series.

on tap at the brewpub

Completely clouded pale yellow color with a bone white head resting on top. Retains pretty well, eventually leaving some spotty lacing on the glass with a collar of film.

Bright, inviting citrusy scents with lemon peel and juice. Bretty funk and a tart snap with straw, toasted wheat malts and soft sweetness.

Expressive hoppiness up front with plenty of juicy lemon and citrus. Bretty funk and tartness really kicks it up a notch, integrating pretty nicely into the profile. Mild backbone, toasted bread and fresh cut grass with continuing tartness and hops on the back end.

Lighter medium body, decent carbonation, dry and lively on the tongue. Tasty, hoppy and tart flavors really got the job done for me on this one - I'm curious to see what's next in this series.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

This was interesting, mainly due to the appearance. I don't know if there was something up with the beer or the tap line, but I've never seen a beer that looked like this. It poured a completely opaque, milky-yellow color, like grapefruit juice mixed with milk--not an exaggeration--topped with a thick, creamy white head that made the glass resemble the top two layers of a Jell-O 1-2-3 (remember those?). After I got mine, the beer was pouring as practically unserveable mounds of thick foam, but I'm assuming they corrected the whatever the problem was eventually. Aroma was thick with Brett, grass, lemon zest, mild funk. Fairly zesty up front in the taste, with an obvious Brett character throughout, bready, crackery, grassy... This is labeled an APA here, but I don't really know why. If that's truly what it is, it bares nearly no resemblance whatsoever. Body was light-medium, and despite the awkwardness of the pour, it was still a nice and drinkable brew overall.

This didn't really resemble an APA in my opinion at all. I'd say wit h the addition of the Brett that it is more of a Wild Ale. But anyway, this beer poured out as a cloudy milky yellow color with a creamy white head on top. The retention and lacing are both pretty good. The smell of the beer gives off a modest amount of the Brett on the nose, lemon and lime citric adic come to mind. The taste of the beer is slightly tart with the base of the beer kind of lost somewhere in the middle. The mouthfeel was smooth, lightly carbonated and pretty drinkable. Overall it's an average beer at best. Not something I would need to drink again.

Straight pour from a 1L flip-top growler (howler?) to, of course, a brand-new Tired Hands stempiece, courtesy of lovindahops (thanks again, man—unreal). Filled on Saturday, today is Monday.

Appearance (3.75): A very cloudy, pale, straw-yellow body the color of lemon juice is capped by just half a finger of bone-white head that doesn’t stick around, but leaves little patches of lace and suds all over the glass, almost like particulate matter is sticking to the glass.

Smell (4.5): Brett, light and funky, with a slightly musty and spicy character leads the way—smells like dried hay and lemon juice with some white pepper and water crackers underneath. Awesome, just crisp and fragrant and beautiful.

Taste (4.25): Again, the brett is most noticeable here but it’s just light and crisp and peppery with a moderate funk—but not dirty in any way. Just tart and pretty, with that chewy, rustic backbone that brett shows. The lemony character comes through again with a tart, citrus rind bitterness on the back end, which washes away most everything else and lingers for a long while. The malt base is so pale and dry, it’s like liquid common crackers mixed with lemon juice and that light, bright funk.

Mouthfeel (4.25): Crushable, if that’s a thing. Modestly carbonated (feels more like a cask beer), with a slightly starchy, lighter-weight body marked by a soft tingle here and there. The finish is fantastic, though—a crisp bitterness dries it out well, but not so much that it feels tacky or parched. Would be perfect if the carbonation was more like a good saison.

Overall (4.25): This is a sweet little number, that’s for sure. This is the kind of beer that you could (and I would) drink by the liter on a hot summer day. It’s so pale and lemony, with that nice “off” kind of funk that it’s hard not to guzzle. Really fun to drink, and very pleasing. Looking forward to more Tired Hands in my future!

A pale ale brewed with wheat and all Cascade hops. Fermented with two strains of Brett.

Poured from a 1L growler into a snifter.

Poured an opaque, hazy, golden straw color with minimal carbonation. Had a very small amount of head that dissipated rather quickly. Looks rather dull..until you take a whiff. Delicious citrus smell, lemon is most predominant with a definite Brett funk. The smell alone makes you want to drink it. Has a well-balanced taste, with the citrus most notable. As it hits the back of your taste buds, the Brett takes over and is quite a pleasant surprise. It is very thin and smooth with the perfect amount of carbonation for the style. Like the previous reviewer, this is a style that is not brewed often enough. Bravo to Tired Hands for this delicious treat. I will certainly be heading back there to get this growler refilled.
