On draft at the source as well as 2L and 1L growlers consumed on the couch in the days following. The beer is golden orange with a white head. The aroma brings lemons, funk, citric hops, grass, floral notes. A fabulous hoppy saison. Complex, yet easy drinking. Earthy notes with orange peel and a funky, bitter finish. Medium bodied. A lovely beer from the folks at Tired Hands.

Straight pour from a 1L “howler” to a shiny new Tired Hands stem, of course. Growler filled Saturday, today is Tuesday.

Appearance (4.0): Nearly perfect, in the body: sort of a honey orange-gold, perfectly cloudy (almost no passage all the way through), and glowing. The head is bone-white, rises to a finger before dying to some film on the surface, and leaves spots and suds all around the glass. It almost leaves some particulate matter here and there on the glass.

Smell (4.5): Wowza, this is a VERY fragrant beer—sweet pineapple juice, apricots, grapefruit peel, and a lemonade sweetness complementing a pale, slightly sweet malt character, like a plain bundt cake. Slightly rustic with straw and earth tones. Wonderful, dude.

Taste (4.25): A very lovely mix of mainly floral, grassy hop character (VERY floral) mixing with some light citrus rind bitterness plays out in the hops department; the malt character is pale and starchy, almost like unleavened bread. There’s a light, earthy funk underneath, with more straw and earth for a nice, rustic aspect. Goddamn, I am loving the yeast character in this beer. No sense of alcohol, which is good, and the floral hops carry a bright, herbal-lemony dimension from start to finish, allowing the hop profile an interesting transition over the course of the beer. And that rustic, light funk lends a totally new dimension to this beer.

Mouthfeel (4.25): Carbonation is soft and velvety, with tiny prickles all around early on; the body is smooth with a medium weight, almost creamy in feel. It finishes moderately on the dry side, inviting more sips . . . very satisfying to drink.

Overall (4.25): This is excellent stuff. The hops play a great, surprisingly restrained (but still very prominent) role in the aroma and flavor of the beer, while the yeast character adds a new, interesting, and very satisfying dimension to the overall effect that this beer has. Very fragrant, with a delicate balance of flavors and a very satisfying feel, this beer is a real pleasure to drink. Definitely pleased with this one.

On tap at Tired Hands last weekend. Served in a wine glass. Pours a nice golden color with a good head. The nose brings forward citrus, pine, and tropical notes. A bit of farmhouse yeast in the background. Some rye definitely comes in through the flavor alongside nice earthy and floral notes. Great citrus and fruit in the background. Medium body and fairly bitter. Really easy to drink. Excellent.

First had: on tap at the brewpub

Cloudy golden-yellow pour with a thick, fluffy, white head that receded to a thin layer of bubbles, leaving traces of lace on the glass. Fresh hoppy aroma, tons of tropical fruit, mango mostly, and fresh pine needles. More of the same in the taste, delightfully hoppy, a total mango bomb up front, fading into flavors of peach and pine, grass, with an obvious bready rye presence coming in about mid-palate, finishing dry and slightly bitter. A reminder--as if I needed one--of how much I love Simcoe. Body was light and crisp, making for yet another great TH saison.

This poured out as a hazy yellow color with a nice looking white head on top. The lacing was sticky and the retention was pretty solid. The smell of the beer gives off some nice fresh lemon-like aromas, there is a subtle amount of earthiness to it but I'm not picking up much of the rye. The taste of the beer has a good bitterness, there is a balance of the fruity flavors in it with the spiciness of the hops and rye. Still the rye remains a bit hidden though. The mouthfeel is what I like the most about this beer, it's thick, it has an oily feel to it. It's different than probably every other Tired Hands brews I've ever had. This brew has a solid body to it and a good carbonation level as well. Overall this is a very enjoyable beer in my opinion.
