One of the most impressive IPA's I've ever tasted. Brutally smooth despite the massive ABV, drinkable and then some. Great looks, with the classic hazy-orangey-fresh look of Tired Hands... Juicy, explosive tropical smell, like diving in a pool of fresh-squeezed juice, pineapples and naked girls in Hawaii. Outrageous. So outrageous

This poured out as a clear looking copper color with a thin white head on top. The retention is very thin but there is a decent lacing on the glass. The smell isn't as strong as I was hoping for but it does have a subtle earthy pine aroma on the nose. The taste of the beer is big, lots of sweet malt with a punishing amount of hops. Nice resin-like and citrusy pine flavors collide with the massive malt backbone. The mouthfeel is sticky, with a slick oily body and nicely carbonated. Overall at nearly 12% this beer is dangerously drinkable, it's hard to sit back and just sip it. Very good Imperial IPA.

On tap at the brewcafe

Appearance: hazy vibrant orange with a medium fluffy white head.

Nose: Big tropical fruits, plenty of sweetness. No malts to speak of. The nose is fairly unassuming compared to the huge flavor profile.

Taste: Tons and tons of mango, papaya, grapefruit, and juicy pineapple. It's a big sticky, sweet beer, but it the sweetness is necessary to balance out the intense bitterness. The alcohol isn't present at all, but its still a slow, dessert-type, sipper thanks to the intensity of flavor.

Mouthfeel: a bit flat like most Tired Hands stuff but it works fine with the taste.

Overall: This should be a cult classic like Pliny the Younger. One of my new favorites.

Poured from a 1L growler filled 3/8.

Pours a nice, hazy gold. There isn't a whole lot of head, but there is a lot of sticky lacing left behind.

Tropical fruit aroma fills the nose, there is a hint at the amount of alcohol, but overpowering. The aroma is the star of this show.

First taste is a creamy mango fruitiness...There is still little evidence of the ABV.

Mouthfeel is very nice. It's creamy and has a nice bit of oiliness to it. Really makes you crave another sip.

This is is a pretty solid beer. It's deceptively drinkable at 11.5%. Just a touch more carbonation would be nice, but that is minor. This should be brewed again, it might be much for regular rotation, but once or twice a year would be perfect!

32oz, filled 3/14/13 consumed 3/16/13
6oz pint glass

A: Pours almost completely clear light orange yellow color. Layer of light white head. Sticky lacing for days. Impressed by how light this beer is for the ABV.

S: Big sweet fruitiness on the nose. Mango and papaya and pineapple for sure. Juicy fruit hops. Sweet malts are there too.

T: Not overly bitter with all those fruity flavors. But is it very sweet. Delicious, lots of fruit. The alcohol is SO HIDDEN it's dangerous. Finish is dry, but not overly bitter at all.

M: Medium bodied leading to full because of malts.

Very cloudy tan body with a bone-white head. Aroma is huge on tropical fruits and bready grains. Flavor is like a big tropical fruitcake spiked with alcohol. Big hop flavor, huge bready malt backbone, noticeable alcohol presence. Feel is full and sticky, medium carbonation. This is a huge, potent and extreme triple IPA. Compared to their other offerings, this may be a case of too much of a good thing, but it provides a potent punch.

First had: on tap at TH

8oz. pour, hazy amber color topped with a creamy off-white head that retained well and left stratifying lacing on the glass. Hoppy nose, as might be expected, citrus, tropical fruit. Very tasty, with a blast of hops, candied orange and apricot, a plethora of tropical fruit, orange blossom sweetness, and almost no bitterness at all, an unusual but welcome (in this case) deviation from the norm of the style. Pretty smooth as far alcohol presence goes, though near the finish there was a bit of a boozy kick. Medium body, moderate carbonation, very good brew overall. Cheers!

Poured on tap into a small snifter at Churchkey DC. From notes.

A hazy orange amber body presented with a soapy and very thin off white collar.

Weird nose. Paste and paper, with a very noticeable light floral hop and action and dominating citrus hop. Big sense of chew density.

Palate is a bit of a shock. It's incredibly sweet. Citrus orange sweetness with lots of white sugar everywhere. Sweetness everywhere goes to simple syrup mouthfeel, but still has some light body strangely enough. The hop angle on this is real solid and coating.

Overall though, it's far too sweet to enjoy more than once for myself. For once in those rare times I would have liked some bitterness here.
