16oz bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter.
Pours a 3.5 finger frothy, mocha colored head with great retention. Beer is pitch black. Lacing is thick and layered with excellent stick and oily legs. Great looking beer!
Nose is dank dark fruit, wood, some mocha, peat and leather. Deep, dark and rich though with some weird flavors.
Opens yeasty. Notes of roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses and plum. Some ashy notes in the middle with just the slightest hint of booziness. More dark fruit sweetens this one just a bit before the finish which is liquorice and roast. Aftertaste of chocolate, smoke, ash, and rotting wood. Pretty enjoyable.
Medium to full bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Slightly prickly but pretty smooth in the mouth and goes down rich and warming. Messy finish with a lingering, sticky aftertaste. Very solid.
Compared to the stainless steel version, this is a much better beer. There is no infection, the flavors are pretty complimentary and the barrel is subtle but noticeable. Worth trying.

500 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Black. Nice surface wisps. Thick chunky collar.
Smell - Not much whiskey. Dark chocolate. Booze. Vanilla.
Taste - Chocolate. Vanilla. The whiskey isn't prominent, but it cuts the ashy flavor from the malt.
Mouthfeel - Medium body. Medium carbonation. Slightly boozier than the base.
Overall - Pretty good, but no improvement on the base.

500ml bottle. Big thanks to Stakem for splitting this one with me a few months back. Pours black with a rich dark mocha head. This maintains a firm richness, leaving back a thick cascade of lacing that slows drips down the sides of the glass. The nose is mix of whiskey, chocolate, roast and dark fruit. It’s got some overall nice flavors here but seems a little subdued considering. The taste has a moderate whiskey sting to it up front, which is followed by a big push from behind of chocolate, vanilla, coffee and dark fruit flavors. This is dry, tannic and burnt feeling on the edges and finish of this. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a firm carbonation that blows up a bit in the mouth. Alcohol is handled well with just some sting from the barrel being present. This was good. I wish that the aroma had given up a bit more character but the flavor and smoothness of the body more than made up for it. Thanks again for sharing Adam.

500ml into a matching Tired Hands glass. The brew appears dark brown to black in color with a khaki finger of head. Some brown clarity is noted around the edges. The cap holds fairly well, slowly fading leaving patches of lacing effect.
The aroma is oaky with a minor vinous appeal blended with chocolate. Some earth and roasted quality is evident. A little bit of brine and alcohol tang meshes with sulfur. As it warms up, a spicy whiskey note really starts to evolve.
The flavor is roasty with earth and raw oak. More sips reveal a bit of chocolate and tangy vinous elements moreso than the expected whiskey. However, the flavors really meld well with an aftertaste mildly reminescent of tobacco.
This is medium bodied bordering on heavier from the modest level of carbonation and smooth to chewy feel it displays. I dont know how this is 12% abv, it never feels even half that much. This is a pretty awesome brew, I could easily drink more than a liter of this myself. When is the next only void day? I need more.
