Straight pour from a 1L flip-top growler to a wineglass; filled about 24hrs ago at the brewery. Tag says drink within 48 hours—challenge met, Tired Hands. Challenge met.

Appearance (4.25): Two fingers of pale white foam comes off of the pour and dies down reeelatively quickly (not too fast, though) and leaves what is at first a nearly solid sheet of lacing on the side of the glass—just a light coating of foam all over—and later a great combination of spackling, legs, and collars. The body is a cloudy, light orange-tan color that’s translucent on the edges. This is a really great-looking IPA.

Smell (4.5): Peach, passionfruit, pineapple, and other kinda-mellow, kinda-citric, super-juicy fruit tones really dominate here. Some resin, and some nice, bready malt tones (pale, fresh-baked white bread mixed with some lemon icing) underneath. This is an outstanding-smelling beer, well-crafted and pungent.

Taste (4.25): The hops are still juicy and fruity here, but more lightly so, shifting more towards a lemonade-like bitterness with some citrus zest, a little pineapple juice, a solid grassiness (which is somehow not very bitter but still grassy and floral), and lots of floral character. There’s a real sturdy pine resin aspect to it, too, especially in the (quite long) finish. The malt body is dry and bready, like common crackers or dry biscuits. Neutral yeast, no alcohol, a subtly floral/fruity underbelly, and tons of grassy, citrus-zesty, slightly resinous hop character. Super drinkable.

Mouthfeel (4.25): The carbonation is smooth and the body oily, coating everything evenly before a surprisingly sturdy tingle covers the tongue . . . it drinks light for its size, thanks to the understated malt body and solidly bitter hops. The finish is surprisingly a little juicy, and really nice.

Overall (4.25): This is one of those IPAs that’s somewhere between well-done to outstanding in every regard—but in a way that it’s almost unassuming at first. Like, “oh it’s pretty solid IPA,” except for when you dig into it you realize it has an excellent feel, the flavor is balanced with a surprisingly complex hop character, the nose is almost out of this world, and even the appearance grows on you. Tired Hands does, apparently, know their shit when it comes to hoppy, pale beers—y’know, in case you hadn’t heard. Another great one from TH.

Poured from tap at the brewery into tulip. Hazey golden orange with a finger of head gone quickly. Huge citrus and passionfruit aroma with a hint of pine. Taste is huge fruity flavor. ..pine finish. Lots of graininess and a perfect crisp grapefruit punch. So so smooth its chuggable. Holy crap this is fantastic.
