A- hazy, near gold. small head, good laces.
S- fruity, but not citrus. Funky - bordering on sour or tart, but not there.
T- surprisingly well-balanced, not sour or overly tart, light taste of tomato, refreshing
M - lighter than expected, no discernible acidity, quite quaffable
O - as advertised "awesome and weird" nothing like any Berliner weisse I've had. I liked it. Purchased two small growlers for friends to sample the strange fruit that is tomato brew.

Served in an 8 oz glass

First had: on tap at TH

Interesting and perhaps somewhat controversial. But would the beer scene be any fun otherwise? Pale yellow pour, hazy, with a small cap of creamy white head; moderate retention and a bit of lacing. Aroma of toasted grains, some fruity funk, and a touch of almost lactic tartness, and a dash of salt. This came out right around Mr. Alien, which I wasn't crazy about, so I'm not sure if the "base" beer was the same or not, but regardless, the conditioning on tomatoes really turned it into a different creature. Several people--including one or two of the staff--seemed to think the tomato didn't really come out in any meaningful way, but I noticed it immediately on the first sip. Perhaps in a blind taste test, it would be harder to identify, but there was a salty and almost savory element to the taste, actually almost coming off more like a ragout than fresh raw tomato, overripe, mid-palate bringing in a bit of lemon-like tartness, toasted wheat with a slight weiss-like acidity, and a decidedly earthy finish. Medium body, full-ranging taste bud stimulant. Probably not something I'd personally get more than a glass or two of, but definitely points for originality, and I think it was about spot on for what they were going for.

Thanks to tenderbranson by way of Slatetank for securing this 1-liter growler for me. Poured into a matching TH oversized wine glass, the brew pours a hazy golden color with a finger of white froth from a pour down the middle of the glass. The cap slowly fades leaving hardly any lacing effect. The brew looks pretty standard for a berliner offering.

The aroma is slightly earthen and faintly seedy in a tomato sorta way but without previously knowing tomato was put in this, I highly doubt anyone (myself included) would be able to distinguish that. As it warms up, a bit of lemon character and accenting fruity quality emerges.

The flavor has some saline aspects to it with a minor fruity lemon appeal like your typical berliner. More sips reveal a touch of earthen and sulfate character that gets mildly vegetative towards the finish. As this warms up, almost a vinous note emerges that has somewhat of a chardonnay sort of feel to it.

This is a light bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is light and prickly with a cleansing sort of feel to it indicative of the style. I cant stress how awesome it is to get a TH growler that is adequately carbonated...it doesnt happen all the time but when it does, man is it good. This berliner while very unique with the tomato addition is leaps and bounds ahead of mr. alien stylistically which was released shortly before this one. The tomato was subtile enough that you could certainly get it in the aftertaste as it warmed up. For a strange idea, I think they really pulled this one off. I would certainly drink this again.

Pour is lightly hazed pale yellow with a white head. Nose is apple cider and vinegar, vegetal, earthy and minerally. Moderate carb, lighter body, lots of vegetation, less salty than the nose with more sweetness. Estery in the finish, puckering and prickly.

I appreciated tenderbranson69 sharing this growler with me, enjoyed chilled from a can shaped glass.
From Tired Hands website: Heirloom Tomato Berliner Weisse. 5.2% Brewed with wheat. Conditioned on 120 lbs. of Heirloom Tomatoes from Tim Mountz at Happy Cat Farm. Awesome and weird

The color is golden with very light haziness and thick creamy white cap which is gone before you know it. The smell has the familiar tart wheat aroma you might expect from a berliner but as it warms it gets the added scent of fresh sliced tomato with a ripe fruity quality that is almost juicy it really has a different aroma from another because of the amount of tomato in the beer. The feel is mildly tangy at first with some light sour textures interwoven with mild tannic feel and subtle malt element with moderate carbonation and medium body very fruit tanginess with a mild acidic quality in the dry tart finish.

This beer has a taste that brings a light acidity up front with mild wheat malt flavor with some light citrus elements and subtle earthy flavor. The tomato taste comes in more at the back end with lycopene type vegetal and berry-like grape tomato juiciness with subtle lactic finish. My overall take is that the only tomato beer I have had is way better than expected. It was like biting into a ripe tomato but not like drinking the juice of a tomato if that makes sense. The fact they used heirloom tomatoes probably made a difference, but I am not sure how just more tomato essence I guess. This beer is refreshing and flavorful but I am glad I could share the growler.

Recieved a growler in a trade with Kapkenobi- thanks bud!

32oz. growler poured into a FFF teku.

Pours a hazy whitish gold color with just a hint of pink, with a thin, bone-white head. minimal lacing, and the head quickly dissipates. I was expecting a bit more color from the tomatoes, but it's still a good looking beer.

Comes with the typical berliner nose, tart lemon, soft wheat and theres just a touch of funk.

Tastes follows the nose. Lemon and wheat with a mild lactic presence. There is a soft, faint sweet tomato flavor, but its way in the background. I was really hoping for/expecting more of a tomato flavor.

Mouthfeel is pretty spot on for the style. clean, tart finish and excellent carbonation in the body.

Overall, while i think this beer is an excellent berliner, it is pretty straight-forward. I think i've been drinking too much Florida Weisse, where the brewers pack the berliner chock full of fruit flavors. This beer was refined, and subtle, but lacked any standout qualities.

on tap at the brewpub - served in taster

Hazy straw golden color with a bubbly cropping of white head, quickly fading out while tasting. Toasted grain, lactic tartness, wet straw and a hint of vegetal tomato in the nose. Tart and snappy on the tongue, funky yeast and cracked pepper glance across. The tomatoes aren't boisterous, but rather an accentuation of salty, fruitiness that reminds me of fresh picked vegetables from a backyard garden. Finishes tart and dry on the tongue. Refreshing, lighter body, higher carbonation.

Funky and interesting brew from Tired Hands (of course) - I'd definitely try it again, but I wouldn't put this in the top echelon of Berliners for me.
