Appears a dark amber tone with a fluffy white cap that fades into a small collar. Speckles of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of caramel, orange citrus notes, vanilla, anise, and pepper.
Taste is if the aromas, with a citrusy, spicy, bourbon with southern comfort punch.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, warming, and smooth. For Christ's sake, how is this 11.5%? Smooth.

Year old plus? Thanks to rudzud.

No real fizzy head, semi clear hazy mahogany brown color, decent legs.

Nose is great, tons of great whiskey, rye whiskey, some toasty oak barrel with faint vanilla, big sweet candy, toffee, caramel, candy chewy, dark fruits, date and candied raisin, brown sugar, sugardaddy candy, juicy malt, toasty brown malt. No booze.

Taste brings more of the same, big fruity, raisin and date, little prune too, tangy dark fruit juice. Into lots of sweet characters, caramel and toffee all over, brown sugar, candied dates, little bitterness, etc. Mild whiskey, little vanilla oak barrel, mild rye whiskey, etc. Vanilla nougat and candy bar mild chocolate, all back end. Lingering sweet sticky caramel candy, prune and date candied juice, mild bitterness, hint of booze.

Mouth is thin, bit watery, light carb too, little syrupy, very light booze.

Overall started very good, such a great barrel aged barleywine on the nose but taste lacked a lot of the goodies, and mouth was very flat, but booze was hidden well. Pretty good though.

First had: bottle from the release at TH

Poured into an #appropriate FatherBeast snifter. Chestnut brown color, deep and nearly opaque, with a small cap of bubbly head that soon receded to a thin collar; small streaks of lacing here and there. Now, MotherAnimal, the base beer for this one, I admittedly was not a big fan of, but the power of a barrel should never be underestimated (although Dad's Hat isn't exactly good booze, and I think that's the brand of barrel they used here). The best quality of this beer was definitely the aroma. Mary Janes, molasses, cream soda, butterscotch, lesser notes of licorice and subtle warming booze. Definitely had that luscious barleywine nose. The flavor profile wasn't nearly as alluring. Better than the base, but still just kind of weird to me. Sweet, but kept from being cloying by a solid woodiness lent by the barrel, notes of cocoa, rum raisin, burnt caramel, hints of vegetal vanilla bean and old coffee grounds--as opposed to MA, I don't think there was any actual coffee in FB, but if so, it was nearly faded, and I think that's a good thing. Definitely had a boozy kick, with sensations of whiskey, rum, and fusel alcohol. Mouthfeel was still a bit on the thin side for a barleywine and not very smooth overall, carbonation was appropriate. It was good, and I'd like to try it again in a few months to see what time does to it; not sure if aging it any longer than that will make a difference, but I guess it's worth a try.

I appreciate Rifugium hooking me up with a bottle of this as well as the matching proper glass. Poured from the wax dipped 375ml into said father beast snifter. The brew appears a clear mahogany color with a rich tan cap that fades quick. Upon closer inspection, some balls of yeast particulate find their way into the glass.

The smell is a blend of something woody and fruity then transitions to a maltiness like molasses. Hints of raison and raw oak fill out the rest of the holes in the aroma.

The taste is solvent and boozy with raison, vanilla, caramel and herbal hops. Overall it blends well with all the flavors expected/indicative of a barrel aged barleywine.

This is a medium bodied brew thats moderately carbonated. Its a boozy sipper and overall enjoyable. I appreciate the chance to crack into a bottle - its not bad but its also not something id venture out of my way to secure more of.
