A 330ml bottle with a BB of April 2014. Picked up a while back from Beeritz. The label mentions that it is hopped with Citra, Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber hue with fine sediment and very low carbonation. Yields a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before settling as a patchy surface layer. Aroma of strong buttery diacetyl with underlying hints of fruitiness, faint citrus, vague caramel malt and a twinge of earthy yeast. There is an overriding character of strawberry yoghurt, which is just bizarre (not to mention unwelcome).

Tastes of fruity aromatic hops with a bitter finish. Notes of white grape, subtle citrus, buttery diacetyl, mild caramel malt, earthiness and stewed hops. Faintly sweet, with a lurking butteriness and a strident bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and mildly tingly, with hop oils stimulating the palate. Good body but low carbonation renders it flat and textureless. Slightly astringent, followed by an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, diacetyl and faint malt.

Meh - underdelivers on its promises. An intense diacetyl presence compromises everything about this beer - the pervasive buttery character is impossible to escape. Lacklustre looks, while the aroma is very buttery and sweet. Weird fruity off-notes don't help. The flavour is a little better but not much; some hop notes and malt. Poor body; needs a serious carbonation boost. Given that this is bottle conditioned I have no idea what went wrong - perhaps something killed the yeast during bottling? An unsatisfying experience and another RedWillow beer that falls short. Caveat emptor.
