On tap at the Whip In during the RateBeer Winter Gathering. My first beer from this brand new brewery. Definitely excited to give this a try.

As expected, the beer pours a hazy golden color with a large white head. The aroma has some biscuit and Belgian yeast notes, as well as a little bit of citrus. The flavor follows suit. There is a little bit of orange citrus, as well as some pepper and spice from the yeast and some biscuit malt. The beer is fairly dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A passable saison. Thanks Steven Beerenberger. Lots of head. A tad of funk. Very overcarbonated. A little rye taste, some banana yeast, otherwise not all that spicy. Still good drinkability. Too much alcohol for the taste gained. Needs more delicacy to get at the herbs.

750 mL bottle nearly took my head off when I unwound the cage. Im still wondering if it broke my skylight 25 feet up from where I opened it. I actually have cork-burn on my forehead from this bitch. I have never, ever had a cork fly out like this one did. Use extreme caution when opening. Gushed a bit, not as much as expected for the flying projectiles, and poured 1/4 hazy gold beer and 3/4 fluffy white head. Retention lasted through that whole paragraph and still persists. Leaves some spotty lace.

Nose is a fairly pleasant blend of red apples, honey, fresh crushed grains and pears. A nice smelling brew.

Its not infected, just way overcarbonated...so the CO2 is the first thing I taste along with a fruity yeast and grainy malt. The yeast might be a bit too rampant and seems to be fermented too warm with a disappointing hop presence and an overmatched malt profile. Its not horrible and would pass for a pretty good homebrew...but more than $10 a bottle for this absurdity?? Really? That annoys me more than the flaws of the brew. I will not be buying the Golden Ale at $11 a bottle and I was hoping this would be a good local to send out in BIFs...but Im afraid I might get arrested for blowing up a FedEx truck. NOT willing to take that risk on a shiesty bottle of lackluster brew.

A: And again, this is a huge gusher. Pours a dark burnt orange color. Yeast floaties all over the place. A massive white head pours out of the bottle. The foam vanishes in the glass in a second and can not be rejuvenated. Light lace.
S: Earthy yeast, phenols, pepper. I can't get much else.
T: Up front is dry earthy yeast. Phenolic, kind of plastic like. Burnt caramelized brown sugar.
M/D: A medium body with prickly carbonation. Initially the earthy yeast makes this dry, but finishes to much on the sweet side for me. Fairly easy to drink, though not coming back to this one.

Pretty much just like the Golden Ale, but a bit sweeter. Especially in the finish. Again, too expensive for what is here, and another gusher. Not something I am going to revisit.

Tried this at a brewery party during my trip to Austin. They were giving it away because laws prohibit the distribution brewery from selling beer on site. Lame Law very similar to Minnesota were I currently reside. Lets get these laws changed!

Appearance- Nice clean and clear golden color with about a finger of soft white head which dissipates slowly. No lacing carbonation which is sometimes common for the style.

Smell- Nice tangerine, citrusy, black pepper spice wafts out of this beer with a hint of sweet bread similar to a cinnamon toast, but not cinnamon exactly. Very nice bright aroma.

Taste- Very clean with wonderful sweet citrus flavors, hints of spice and funkiness, not brett but something reminiscent of a earthy cheese. As the ale warmed it lost a bit of carbonation quicker than expected, and a slightly tart flavor emerged which was not unpleasant. Very easy to drink at 8% there is no presence of alcohol.

Mouthfeel- Smooth with a light carbonation. The carbonation seemed to come out of this Saison rather quickly, which let to a sweet ester flavor to lingering on the tongue.

Overall- This is a delicious session 8% saison. Would be great on a hot Texas day sitting on any patio. The flavor is great, aroma wonderful, I would just raise the carbonation a bit, but that is only my personal preference. The beer is fine as is with no noticeable flaws. I look forward to trying more beers from this up and coming belgian style brewery.

Thanks for the free beer.
