750 mL bottle nearly took my head off when I unwound the cage. Im still wondering if it broke my skylight 25 feet up from where I opened it. I actually have cork-burn on my forehead from this bitch. I have never, ever had a cork fly out like this one did. Use extreme caution when opening. Gushed a bit, not as much as expected for the flying projectiles, and poured 1/4 hazy gold beer and 3/4 fluffy white head. Retention lasted through that whole paragraph and still persists. Leaves some spotty lace.

Nose is a fairly pleasant blend of red apples, honey, fresh crushed grains and pears. A nice smelling brew.

Its not infected, just way overcarbonated...so the CO2 is the first thing I taste along with a fruity yeast and grainy malt. The yeast might be a bit too rampant and seems to be fermented too warm with a disappointing hop presence and an overmatched malt profile. Its not horrible and would pass for a pretty good homebrew...but more than $10 a bottle for this absurdity?? Really? That annoys me more than the flaws of the brew. I will not be buying the Golden Ale at $11 a bottle and I was hoping this would be a good local to send out in BIFs...but Im afraid I might get arrested for blowing up a FedEx truck. NOT willing to take that risk on a shiesty bottle of lackluster brew.

22 oz bottle
Served in a tulip glass

A - As with other reports this was an explosive opening and a gusher. This is the first beer i have had trouble pouring as each pour caused a massive head in the glass. Constant stream of carbonation from the bottom of the glass so the head remained thinly across the beer the entire time. Slightly hazy golden orange color.

S - Definitely a Saison. Belgian yeasts. Sweet smell of light fruits like nectarines, peaches and apples.

T - Very sweet rich flavors that follow the nose. Apples and peach. A little bit of spice but not much.

M - Sticky oily feel but not really thick. The carbonation is there but it is a smooth easy drinker.

O - This is sweeter than others of style that I have had. But I like sweet beers so that is good for my tastes. Not a session beer though. I got this mislabeled at Specs for $1.99. The beer girl actually pointed out the price so I could grab one before they corrected the label. I really like this beer and would definitely drink this again.

Appearance: Explosive pop when the cork finally gave up the fight. Half glass of foam but the bottle didn't gush and it settled down to a thin cover that held and left spotty lace.

Smell: Like a Saison, over ripe peach nectar esters on a light tonic bitter base. Not particularly farmy (which I like) and smells like it means business in the alcohol department.

Taste: Rich flavor, very sweet, fruity must, the alcohol drives a lot of the punch, all the volume knobs are turned to 11. It's a bit much after a while, this is going to be a slow sipper as the sweetness is almost candy like.

Mouthfeel: Thick viscous texture, heavy body slowly fades out. Starts oily and rich, then the alcohol vaporizes taking most of the finish, then it transforms into a bone dry puckering demand for the next sip.

Overall: A flavorful rich beer, but this is outside the Saison range. It's a double Saison, an Imperial Saison, something, but the style is generally a lawn mower beer. Something to refresh after working on the farm. This is just too heavy, like drinking syrup rather than water. Yummy syrup, just not what you want right then.
So, recommended just as a good bold tasting beer. The bottle conditioning seems a bit strong, I'd recommend taking reasonable precautions if cellaring, but this could stand up to some aging.
First taste of a new Austin brewery; Good luck! This is a fine howdy, I'll be looking for more.

A passable saison. Thanks Steven Beerenberger. Lots of head. A tad of funk. Very overcarbonated. A little rye taste, some banana yeast, otherwise not all that spicy. Still good drinkability. Too much alcohol for the taste gained. Needs more delicacy to get at the herbs.
