Ingredients: malts, hops, rice.
Extremely dark red beer, nothing black about this, I could actual see though the beer and my fingers on the other side. I found the lightness of color interesting and the red quite pretty. Head was respectable tan color with a sweet, malty aroma. Medium body. Most interesting Japanese macro I have had. Sweetness initially, switching to a medium bitter finish, with a sourness on the middle palate, tastes of burnt caramel. However, this beer lacks the acidity to balance the sweetness. I enjoyed the length of the finish.

I tasted this beer on tap at the Sapporo brewery Beer Museum at Yebisu Garden Palace in Tokyo. The beer was fairly typical for a German style dark lager. The color was very dark brown/black (though not completely opaque). The flavor and mouthfeel were good with noticeable carbonation, but not very heavy. The drinkability was good. This had a bit more complexity and flavor than the lighter lagers from this brewery.

650 ml can. (22oz) Clear and translucent. Rich, deep reddish-orange tinged brown body with a dense, light tan colored head that falls at a quite acceptable rate and holds a thin foamy layer across the surface throughout most of the glass - eventually leaving a good collar and some chunky lace. The aroma is bold with a rich, dark caramel malt and light kilned coffee roastiness. The body is medium-light with a restrained - and very fine - carbonation giving it a silky smooth mouthfeel. The flavor follows the aroma with a superbly balanced, light bittersweet chocolate and espresso maltiness - and a touch of dark fruit (maybe figs?). Some Munich malt is clearly present in it's low key, but rich maltiness, as well as a very dark chocolate component - thankfully, it lacks the acidity of black malt or highly roasted barley. The pronounced finish gives a mild maltiness and a very gentle, long lasting roasty note. An exceptional beer. Extremely well done and highly quaffable. IMHO, the finest beer from Sapporo that deserves much more accolade than it's been given. Possibly the finest example of Schwarzbier next to Bad Kostriker.

This is not a stout as the label suggests. It has an opaque red-brown color with a heavy malt aroma and a coffe-like tang in the background. The overall flavor is very similar to the aroma, but a creamy texture mixes a faintly sour malt aftertaste. A pleasant surprise :).
