Medium golden color with a decent snow-white head and spectacular clouds of rising bubbles, lots of thick, sticky lace. Nice aroma of sweet malts, grain, and hops. Taste begins with grain flavors and a sting of carbonation, mild bitterness and dry characteristic appear midway through. Slight sweetness and a bit of metallic bitterness bring the taste to a close. An eminently refreshing and drinkable beer.

Poured a deep yelow color with minimal head,smel of pretty much nothing maybe a tad of sweetness.Taste was malty and maybe some apple tartness but pretty weak in the flavor department,highly carbonated and a little thin on the mouth.Was expecting more not to impressed with this.

Presentation: 16oz custom Sapporo bottle. Label states that this is a 100% malt brew, a super premium stout (as in strong) draft. A chubby, cheerful character holds a large red fish and a fishing pool. No freshness date.

Appearance: A bright, clear, light golden with a very nice bubbly white foam head. The lively carbonation keeps a thin ringed lace with some stick.

Smell: Quite aromatic with a distinct floral nose and faint grain. Very clean smelling.

Taste: Interesting and unique falvour. Malt flavour is incredibly smooth and creamy on the palate, lightly fruity, sweet with grain flavours and a crisp medium body fullness. A mellow malt richness can be detected in the consistency. Hops are lightly bitter, a little lemony, floral and tea-like towards the end. Finishes clean with some slickness on the palate.

Notes: This is a rather good imported lager. Totally beats the pants off of so many, and could possibly be the best out of the entire Sapporo line-up of beers. The fact that it is ceramic cold-filtered also comes across in the overall finish of the beer.

The beer is named after one of the 7 Shinto gods of goodluck, Yebisu is a gentle god that brings wealth. Yebisu beer was first brewed in 1887.

My favorite sushi spot in Los Angeles just started carrying this which is a step up from my usual draught Kirin.

I actually quite like some of the macro rice Japanese lagers when paired with raw fish. I realize they are all made somewhere other than Japan. Yebisu is not.

It's has a nice malt profile - something you won't find in the rice beers. It also has a slight yeast flavor - something I've never really came across in lagers. It's a unique beer and quite tasty. Enjoyed with some sushi, if every you get the chance.

Firstly, I find it odd that the bottle of Yebisu I'm about to taste was brewed and bottled in Tokyo, yet the bottle of Sapporo Reserve I had earlier came from Canada. Odd, but that's business I guess, so OK....

Yebisu is an all malt beer and that's reflected in the color. It's a deep golden, and crystal clear. I can almost see my fingerprints through the glass, and fine bubbles rise steadily to the surface indicating that there's some sort of body there to keep them at that pace. The short but creamy head holds for a few short moments, receeds, and then thins to a whispy surface covering, leaving behind only minor spots of lace about the glass.

The nose expresses sweetish grainy malt and bright, floral and lightly spicy and woody/herbal hops.

In the mouth it's medium bodied with a creaminess as the beer warms and foams. It's delicately tingly, then creamy. Smooth.

The flavor is very much as the aroma indicates, and it's surprisingly bitter at about 35 IBU's - somewhere along the lines of a German pilsner. So that's what you get here, more malt, more hops, and more bitterness than usual. Is it worth it? Yes, I think it's a really solid lager with a firm malt base, interesting hop flavors, and a rigid bitterness backing it. It's anything but a mass-produced adjunct lager. It finishes clean and dry with a lingering bitterness and some herbal and floral hop character.

Very nicely done! Certainly worth trying.

A 12 oz. can brought back from Japan. Pours a brilliant clear gold with a tall white head and thick lacing. This is a great looking beer.

The aroma is a simpler pale, toasty barley aroma, more like a nice premium-style lager after pouring. The flavor follows with a similarly dull malt profile but there's a growing hop presence as the beer warms and eventually there's a pleasant citrus rind and pepper flavor. This turns into a lovely spicy hop aftertaste and a surprisingly taste beer overall.

Make sure to let this one warms up, it's nothing incredibly special, but for a mass-produced beer its pretty respectable.

Yebisu Stout Draft: Served from a fairly fancy sixteen-ounce bottle. Stout draft? No, not Guinness, but rather a darkish gold color under a very impressive thick white foamy head. Left some fairly thick lacing down the side as well. The aroma is fairly impressive, some skunk, some malts. The taste is impressive, and hard to compare to other beers. I can taste somewhat of a pronounced floral/vegetable taste, which follows up closely with bready malts. At the end, it is fairly clean, with a tiny bit of hops.

Mom brought this back from Japan for me.
Hoping for the best (that it tastes better than Sapporo Premium for one)

A- Crystal clear slighlty caramely gold. Decent amount of dirty white head.

S- I can already tell it's not as dirty as Sapporo Premium. Still, a lot of the same aromas in here. Sweet grain, burnt cream of wheat. I'm very thirsty so the ''beer'' smell is pulling me in but there's nothing really appealling in here. Some cream soda which is kind of nice.

T- Seems like I'm getting some nice lime and a bit of grapefruit from the hops which is nice. Nothing too dirty. Slight grapefruit rind bitterness. Taste is much better than smell.

M- Strange how it's kind of a two parter: thin in the front, full towards the back. High carbonation.

D- Quite good. Refreshing. Some nice hoppy flavors but a little dirtiness too.

About as good as I expected which is just a bit better than Sapporo Premium. I would buy it again if I found it for the same price or cheaper as other similar tasting german or Czech imports we get in dépanneurs here (Bitburger, Konig, Wernesgruner.

Still in Tokyo and back at the hostel enjoying some beer. Poured from a 11.2 oz. can. Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, a touch of malts. Taste is also mild, some malts, dry at the finish, lacking in flavor or punch. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a sub par beer.

Pours out to a copper with a small head that subsides quickly into a half-finger head.

Smell is sweet, hops are very very faint to nonexistent.

Taste was rather surprising. Very sweet, lightly malty beer with a pretty clean finish. Hops are very light and do not overpower the taste.

Mouthfeel is much better than your run of the mill macro. Much less carbonation and thicker consistency make the beer quite enjoyable.

Drinkability is pretty high on this one due to its lightness. I'm quite surprised by what I thought would be just your average lager!

Like everyone else, I had this at a Japanese restaurant last night. It was definately an above average lager. What struck me was how different (in a good way) a mass-produced lager can be without the use of adjuncts. Hoppier, maltier, creamier than any US macro. Enjoyable.

Pours a golden straw color with a decent white head that sinks quickly and lots of yeasties floating around as I didn't know the beer was bottle conditioned when I was pouring it. Slightly sweet malt smell with a husky grain quality to it. The beer has a very dry and grainy start to it that makes it rather refreshing and quenching. The brew retains this excellent dryness until a short and sweet malt burst at the end comes through. It is then back to the dryness for the slight lingering finish however. The graininess provides a very dry and crisp mouthfeel which makes the brew very refreshing and very drinkable. I can imagine that this would go excellent with sushi and other japanese foods.

Yesibu (Stout Draft - huh?) poured a clear straw color with a modest white head. Funny, doesn’t look like a stout, draft or otherwise. Smell was a bit on the grainy side, sweetly malty, with some notes of floral hops. The taste was pretty sweet also. There were hints of tart apple in amongst the malt flavor and it had a light hoppy bite on the back of the palate. The feel was light, dry, and refreshing.
Strangely named, Yesibu (Stout Draft) is a decent beer to pair up with various Asian dishes, particularly spicy ones. By itself, it’s pretty average.
