There's nothing that says "Japan" more than trying a beer that comes in a 135mL(!) can. Thanks go to a friend of ldemaris, who delivered a 6-pack of these miniscule cans direct from the Land of the Rising Sun.
Sapporo Draft Beer pours a straw yellow color into my sampling glass. Atop the clear liquid sits a 3/4", pure white head that dissipates into a soapy ring. Moderate carbonation, little lacing. The smell is dominated by the rice adjuncts; there's a mild amount of grassy malt aroma, with just the barest hint of herbal hops.
The taste is just what the smell promises: moderate rice flavor, some malty sweetness, and a hint of bitterness, with no real overpowering flavor at all. The mouthfeel is very thin and moderately dry; finishes crisp, dry, and with a slightly metallic mix of bland sweetness and bitterness.
As Japanese beers go, it's one of the better ones I've tried; however, it's only marginally more enjoyable than a standard macro-lager.
