Copper/red colour, 1.5 ring of off white head, good lace as well. Smell is a mix of toasty malts and caramel, spicy rye, toffee, buttered bread as well as quite a bit of earthy/floral hop. Taste is more forward with rye, spicy with bitter earthy/floral hop flavours, sweet malt mid palate but stays fairly bitter throughout, spicy/hoppy aftertaste. Medium carbonation, lightish medium body, a little on the thin side. Pretty nice, drinks well and fairly flavourful, something I would pick up once in a while but probably not something I will keep my fridge full of, probably the best beer I have had from these guys.

Very clear with a nice reddish brown color, it poured with a finger and a half of tan foamy head that has great retention to it and leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass.
Faint aroma to it, lightly sweet rye malt notes with a ghostly trace of citrus to it.
Nice mildly sweet, caramel malt forward with a good amount of spicy, peppery rye flavor to it with faint slightly fruity notes, some citrus and black currant hints to it as well as a ghostly traces of bitter cherry and floral hop aromatics. Lightly bitter coffee and black pepper notes on the back-end with a faintly pithy, green plant-like hop finish that lingers with a suggestion of blackberry brambles. Medium bodied with a slightly above average amount of carbonation.

Why did the Brewers Retail stop carrying this exception beer in St. Catharines. I love the Bamberg Rogen Bier and this is as close to that perfection as we get here in Ontario. How unfortunate that the Brewer Retail has discontinued supplying it . It was almost a perfect substitute for its cousin in Germany.

Appearance - Pours a dark copper with three fingers of bubbly cream coloured head.
Smell - rye, caramel malts, earthy, floral, and leafy hops, and mild yeast notes.
Taste - Rye and caramel malts followed by the earthy, floral, and leafy hops. The mild yeast notes help to finish the brew off.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with a lingering bitterness from the hops.
Overall - A pleasant rye beer from the folks at Double Trouble. The hops are the star of the show while the rye and caramel malts are second in line.

473ml can, the first we've seen of these guys' products out here in Alberta for a number of years (not counting that Trailer Park Boys thing from a few months back, that is).
This beer pours a clear, medium copper amber colour, with four flabby fingers of puffy, rocky, and pillowy tan head, which leaves a fair bit of chunky splattered lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.
It smells of semi-sweet caramel malt, a faint spicy rye graininess, mild yeasty notes, and some plain leafy, herbal, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a hint of biscuity toffee, wet rye bread, some very minor wispy ashiness, muddled citrus rind, and more earthy, leafy, and musky floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite active in its palate-teasing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and sort of smooth, as the rye acerbity and hop acridity take things down a notch or so here. It finishes off-dry, the mixed malt, floral spice, and faded citrus essences presiding.
Overall, this is a more complex offering than I assumed at first contact - it takes a little while for the rye to come out and play, and the supposed 'fire' is damned-well nowhere to be seen, but in the end, I quite like this one - definitely worth a try.

Great head! very large head (I don't know where people are getting this "1 finger" from, unless they're waiting 1 minute. Maybe it's because I don't chill down to 5º C or anything crazy like that), quite fine, and excellent head retention. Lots of lacing, but very fine, and it's mostly solid rings of lace. Very dark and cloudy appearance. So dark it could not be considered amber. Light brown (but cloudy). Again I gotta say, the head is really up there with many stouts (not at all like super-fine nitro stouts such as Guiness or anything though); definitely one of the best aspects of this beer.
Smell: I didn't smell much. I guess a bit of caramel. I forgot to smell at the start though, so there may have (probably) been some hop smell there too (which I'd be unable to notice after tasting the beer).
Taste: eh unfortunately I hate really hoppy beers. This was way too bitter for me. That wasn't a surprise though; sometimes I try different stuff for variety. It was too bitter for me to taste much flavor aside from hops. All I really tasted is typical beer loaded with a ton of relatively common hops flavors. Certainly nice for those who like a lot of hops, but not me. The long-term aftertaste was metallic to me. I think it's just the hops though, but maybe not.
The beer has a great medium carbonation that is extremely fine. Definitely something I like. I didn't write much about it, but that doesn't mean I didn't think it was fantastic carbonation/body/mouthfeel.
Try having this beer with a salty food, or even just lick a bit of salt while drinking. It gives a really great flavor dynamic. Maybe a problem was that I wasn't drinking this with anything sweet or salty. In fact, this would probably be a fantastic beer for beer batter, marinating, or any other beer-based food flavoring. Granted, that would be completely wasting the absolutely wonderful carbonation and head that this beer has.
Overall I'd say this is a top-notch beer for the style of "super-hoppy/bitter beers"; recommended to anyone who loves a ton of hops. I feel like this is a really great beer, A+, but which is also totally 100% not for me, so I'm giving it a much lower rating since I can only rate how I personally enjoyed it.

16oz can into a pint glass. Pours a rich red with a spicy nose. The first taste is clearly the spice of rye bread. This is followed by a slightly softened but still bitter hop and then the sweetness of malt and fruit. There's enough going on here that non-rye drinkers were ok with it, while the folks who liked rye beers really liked this one. I'm middle of the road.

A very interesting pint. You have to really be in the mood for something "spicy". It's not a mellow session beer. It's a nuclear kick-start to your taste buds to wake the **** up and get this party started. It's a great pint, but not for everyone.
