Notes/Commercial Description:
Hops and Robbers was formulated with two great friends who share a passion for Craft beer, conversation, stealth missions (Finding great beer on tap) and travel. Nathan and Claude have always been looking for the next big score for IPA’s, so we decided to produce our own beer for the local market that had a great balance, aroma and 50 IBU’s!

This is golden IPA with an exceptionally rich and complex character. Fruity aromas of lemon with hints of pineapple combine crisply with toasty caramel flavours and a tasty malt backbone. Dry hopping with cascade hops ensures more hop aromatics are retained in the finished beer. Made with pride and panache, Double Trouble Brewing’s flagship brand Hops & Robbers is refreshingly delicious.

473ml can, new to Alberta this week. And at just north of 3 bucks a pop, well, then.

This beer pours a clear medium golden amber hue, with a teeming amount of puffy, cushioned foamy dirty white head, which leaves a decent array of layered cloud lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.

It smells of bready, somewhat biscuity malt, some lemon-lime bitterness, slight tropical fruitiness, a mild pure table sugar sweetness, and soft herbal, leafy hops. The taste is more bready, somewhat caramelized malt, ethereal grapefruit and lemon fruitiness, and just tantalizing enough bitter noble hops, which exhibit mainly leafy and subdued fruity notes.

The bubbles are fairly laid back, yet undoubtedly fulfilling their prime directive, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth. It finishes off-dry, the malt and Upper Canada hops dancing ably to the end.

An enjoyable IPA, old-world style, the hops always seeming to be poised to pounce, yet they never do, preferring a somewhat deflating detente, at least to this hophead. Anyways, worth a go, for the balance and overall flavour, at least.

Deep gold colour with a fluffy white head. Good retention and rings of lace. Mild toasty aroma with citric, floral, and earthy undertones. Starts off with a dry toasty malt flavour. Lemon, grassy, and faint pineapple notes come in just before the moderately bitter finish. Light bodied with medium carbonation. Feels light and refreshing. A good but lightly flavoured pale ale that would go well with a wide variety of foods without overpowering.

The hops are here, but not greatly drinkable. What hops used? Orange citrus, just does;t hit the spot. Some hop aroma. Fast dissipating white head on light orange body. Tingling mouthfeel, a little astringent in the finish. More body, complexity needed.

Can to Glass

Appearance - Poured a clear copper colour with a small white head

Smell - Does not smell like an IPA, no hop smell what so ever

Taste - This really isn't an IPA at all, very slight hop taste, tastes more like a lager

Overall - Where are the hops? Not a good IPA at all

A - lightly hazy golden orange, two fingers of head dissipated fairly quickly but left loads of lacing as it did
S - toffee and earthy aromas dominate, slightly musty, not bad aromas but more akin to a malty pale ale than an IPA
T - earthy and peppery hop notes, strong caramel malt balance, subtle flavour late in the finish
M - medium body, light on the carbonation, full and even a little sticky, finishes mildly bitter
O - this is a very well balanced and easy drinking IPA, i tend to like a little more hop bite in flavour and feel but this is extremely balanced and could be sessionable

Poured a two finger white head, decent retention as it ebbed to a fine collar of film. Orange amber in color. Lots of sticky lacing.

Scent is light malt, some citrus and floral hops.

Taste is somewhat subdued compared to the nose, malt, biscuit, faint citrus hops, some grapefruit and mango notes.

Bitter, dry, medium bodied, stale, some carbonation.

Overall, a drinkable IPA although nothing spectacular. Could use some more punch and is a little ho hum.

Thanks Liamt07!

Appearance. Pours a very clear gold with a little amber and 1.5 fingers of off-white head.

Smell. Citrus rinds and a little pine, some toasted light grains.

Taste. Toasty malts, some nice citrusy hops with a little pine and cedar, just a little alcohol.

Mouthfeel. Below medium in body with medium carbonation.

Overall. A good ipa. This would be great for an afternoon bbq.

Can: Poured a light hazy orangey color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of floral citrus notes with light bitter touch. Taste is a mix between some citrus hops with medium bitter notes with some non-descript malt base that is mostly dry. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but really doesn’t stand out from the pack either.

Fresh can B/B Nov 9/12. Poured in to Founders Tulip.

A - Light to medium gold/orange colour. One finger of off white head. Good lacing.

S - Very weak nose for an IPA. Some sweet bready malts and light English-style hopping with floral and herbal aromas.

T - Moderate bitterness up front that is much more potent than the nose suggested. Big floral and herbal notes with some lemon. Fairly balanced with a sweet beady/caramel malt backbone.

M - Medium body with a decent chew. Light carbonation.

O - Easy drinking and good balance. A good starter IPA to introduce someone to craft beer but not exciting to me.

Thanks to cattersley for the can!

Pours a transparent sunny pale colour, with a off-white 2 finger, fluffy head. Left lots of spongy lace. The aroma is earthy, herbal hop notes, touches of floral notes, crackers and nutty malts. Nice balanced taste. It has a fairly stark bitterness, with some flowery hop notes and bits of pale malt sweetness bringing the balance. The feel is slick, slightly oily, but creamy, with a lighter body. It's quite easy to drink, refreshing, and I think would be quite sessionable.

It's not the most aggressive IPA, but it's solid and very drinkable.
