Notes/Commercial Description:
Hops and Robbers was formulated with two great friends who share a passion for Craft beer, conversation, stealth missions (Finding great beer on tap) and travel. Nathan and Claude have always been looking for the next big score for IPA’s, so we decided to produce our own beer for the local market that had a great balance, aroma and 50 IBU’s!

This is golden IPA with an exceptionally rich and complex character. Fruity aromas of lemon with hints of pineapple combine crisply with toasty caramel flavours and a tasty malt backbone. Dry hopping with cascade hops ensures more hop aromatics are retained in the finished beer. Made with pride and panache, Double Trouble Brewing’s flagship brand Hops & Robbers is refreshingly delicious.

Poured from the can into a tulip pint glass.

A nice perfect copper amber colored body, and fairly clear with minimal rising carbonation. Head is slightly yellow and tan with creamy bubbles making about three to four fingers tall head. Some island and creamy dolloped top retention and ring like lacing.

Hop front has a little bit of sweet leafy herbal tea but quite subdued, some spicy qualities also but a dry grainy malt bill as well behind it.

Palate comes across a bit wet and grainy more than anything. Chalky biscuity malt bill and a weak grainy finish. Hop angle is virtually non existent, with some mild pine like bitterness that sort of lingers for a little bit. Palate is real fleeting on this one.

Overall, a drinkable beer, but a bit of an IPA dud.

Poured from a 500ml can chilled in the fridge, with a finger width head that quickly dissipated, leaving a thin layer on top. Smells immediatelly of citrus fruits, as described on the can, definitely lemon, a bit of pine.

Taste follows up on the smell, a bit of citrus, some pine and later on the caramel flavor, also described on the can, started to come through; or perhaps I was just looking for it. There's the requisite hoppy bitterness at the end, but it's quite subdued. Mouthfeel is surprisingly delightful. Just light enough and with the right amount of carbonation.

The cheeky name enticed me. I'm not the biggest fan of IPAs but am trying to get more into them. I found this fairly enjoyable given the style, likely due to how bitter it wasn't. Understandably sessionable.

Poured out of 473ml from LCBO for $2.80 CDN can into Pint Glass

Appearance- Rich dark golden color pours out. 1 Finger of head, dissipates at a middling rate. Excellent lace retention.

Smell- Quite piny with significant hop presence. Diluted by some sweet presence which seems vaguely like honey.

Taste-Fairly Hoppy flavor but does not linger for terribly long. Slightly bitter aftertaste and the lasting taste in your mouth is bitteerness rather than hoppiness.

Mouthfeel - a little bit thin feeling and quite low on the carbonation side.

Overall- A beer that looks and smells better than in tastes. By no means a poor beer, rather enjoyed it, however didn’t quite meet expectations given the appearance and aroma.
