This beer is amazing.

I wouldn't call it a bad La Folie clone, just because it's a sour brown ale. They were going for something different here. This beer has a big brown malt base and has very subtle characteristics. It isn't extremely sour like La Folie, but you get some nice caramel and brown sugar right before the lactic acid rush in the end. It's a really cool take on a sour brown, and I recommend it to everyone.

A little light in color out of the bottle and that continues in the taste and mouthfeel. It is carbed perfectly but the entire thing feels and taste like you tried to clone La Folie with bad results. It's thin and tart but mouthfeel is all carbonation. For the same price in Denver grab a La Folie.

This is a really good take on an Oud Bruin.

A- Lighter red take on an Oud Bruin. Light on lacing

S- Musty funk, as I would expect from this style.

T- Very great profile here. I have had Oud Bruins that are too tart or too sweet. This one is perfectly in the middle.

M- Medium build to light build. Medium carb

O- One of the better Oud Bruins that I have had. Thanks John!!

From a 750 ml bottle (batch 2) into a tulip.

A-A normal pour produces about one finger of light khaki head. The foam fades quickly and leaves no lacing. The beer is a cranberry, reddish-brown. It is very murky, but I can see some carbonation in there.

S-The aroma is sour with lemon drop, tart white grape, vinegar, and a bit of sour dark berry. I detect a wet wood-scented mustiness and some acidity that reminds me of cola. A nice, tart brown aroma.

T-The taste follows the smell for the most part. There are lemons, tart vinegar, big acidity, and some unripe dark berries. The funk is very light and mostly dry, but a bit more funky, sour lactic flavor creeps in as the beer nears room temperature. There is a nice malt profile that adds to complexity and balances out the sour flavors.

M-The feel is light to medium in weight. The carbonation is average to above-average in volume, but fine and easy to drink.

O-This is a nice sour brown ale with a good balance of sour and malt. I enjoyed this beer much more than my earlier TRVE experience with Eastern Candle. The aroma and flavors are decently complex and it paired well with the cheese I had at dinner. I don't know that I would spend 18.99 on it again, but I'm glad I tried it.

hands down the best sour brown ive ever had. its a perfect mix of all the key elements, and just is downright splendid. pouring a rusty brown color, lighter for a brown, with a robust and lasting inch of white head fizzy and airy and elegant. there is a touch of haze, but this is fairly clear for what it is. great nose, bretty and lactic, but not vinegary sour like an oud bruin, its less acidic and a little more straightforward, although there is a big malt profile which must include some chocolate malt and some oats and the very least, but seems even more dynamic than that, especially in the taste, which balances a rather light but complex grain bill with a playful brett strain or two and a fabulous barrel component that ties it all together in a sour earthy funk beat that is quite dance worthy. this is complex and nuanced and highly refined, expertly made, the best trve beer to date hands down. nothing over the top, everything in balance, a great american take on this classic style. unique and memorable. effervescent carbonation and only a medium body. the alcohol percentage is also just right for me, drinkable but strong enough, right in the zone. honestly world class, this is the beer that will make trve famous. also, beautiful artwork worthy of the liquid inside. very cool.
