375ml bottle sealed with a black pressure cap.

poured into HF wine stem.

Appearance: cloudy and glowing medium yellow bodied beer. 2 full fingers of bone white head with tons of little white bubles that quickly drop down to thin ring around the glass. No lacing to speak of.

Smell: This smell fairly tart. Bright citrusy notes mostly composed of a slightly sweet lemon like a meyer lemons. Surprisingly some cheesy funk is in there too. Wheat malts and hint of earthiness.

Taste: Light tartness and a light hint of cheese funk. This definately does not taste as robust as the nose leads you on to beleive. Wheat malts and a slightly earthy rustic flavor to accompany. A watered down seven up flavor in the finish.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer. Almost moderate carbonation levels, but I would say its more on the high end of a low carbonation level. Carbonation is actually pretty well done in this beer. Pretty crisp and lively. The beer feels bright on the palate, just like the beer expresses in the nose. It is also a pretty clean beer. Not a hint of dryness noted from this beer.

Overall: This beer is somewhere between a whimpy berlinner that has not got much tartness (but the lacto funk was an enjoyable part of the beer) and petite saison that is not overly complex. Though both of my statements in the sentance before this lead one to believe it would not be very interesting... that combination actually worked well together or at least it suited my taste. TRVE is making some good beers in Colorado. I have had several of thier offerings and been impressed 2 out of 3 times.

on tap at hops and pie. nice to see these guys getting some kegs out into the market around town a little bit. this is a mighty good one, a bretty funky but rather basic and grainy pale saison. its super low alcohol and super easy drinking, and i think in general these are the beers trve does the best. its washed out and cloudy looking, very delicate though, with an airy white head like a soda, dissipating quickly but retaining bright and refreshing carbonation. a tangy bretty funk to this on the nose, a little grassy hop addition late, but mostly the wheat malt and whatever other grain is in here, maybe some oats, it has more body than others like it, and a touch of sweet in the center. i like the farmy rustic yeast in here, and have not really tasted one quite like this from them before. likely a mix of saison ale yeast and some brett, patiently fermented down to crackling dry. i could drink this one by the gallon, and like that they made it only moderately hoppy and not very sour at all. it lets this drink nice and easy, which is not the norm for these guys and their wild stuff. a little price prohibitive, which is my only real criticism of this one. im sure they will do some single hop editions or something, because this is a very compelling and delicious little base beer. everything these guys are putting out lately has been sensational.

From a 375 ml bottle into a gueuze glass.

A-The beer is very light in color...straw with some dirt on it. There is some active carbonation visible through the murky liquid, but the head is short and retention is minimal. Foam is white and thin.

S-The aroma is quite funky with big doses of barnyard, curd, and an overall mustiness that reminds me of Belgian gueuze. There is a bit of lemon and apricot fruit here, as well as some moderately tart acid. Somewhat restrained, but interesting nonetheless.

T-The taste is also restrained with tart lemon, straw, orange, moderate barnyard funkiness, and a bit of acidity carrying the day. The beer is on the dry side for a sour of this style, but just slightly so. Funk is less intense on the palate than in the nose.

M-The feel is lighter than average with a moderate amount of carbonation that is fine on the palate.

O-I quite enjoyed this beer. Other TRVE beers have hit me over the head with acidity or flavor or whatever, but this one pulls it punches a bit and the result is a well-done, gueuze-like beer that is easy to drink, but still flavorful and interesting. This is a nice, approachable summer beer for sour lovers like me.
