Batch 5 - 375ml bottle poured into a wine taster.

A: Amer in color with bright ruby edges, thin white head that fades almost immediately, leaving no collar or lacing.
S: Acidity and subtle funk, lots of cranberry and cherry with notes of tart granny smith apple.
T: Almost exactly what the aroma would lead you to expect - sour cranberries, sweet cherries, tart apples, lactic acid tartness, some funk/wood/spice/rye underneath.
M: Crisp and light bodied with accentuating carbonation.
O: Very solid offering and a great example of a sour red.

From a 375 ml bottle (Batch 5) to a teku glass.

A-My pour produces a short head with very little retention. The foam is off-white and the beer is reddish amber in color. I can see a few bubbles in there. No lacing on the glass.

S-The smell is quite tart with a nice lactic flavor and moderate amount of funk. It smells musty with vinegar notes, some cranberry, and a bit of pepper.

T-The taste is less tart than the smell would lead you to believe. There is some white vinegar sourness, but the beer is more damp and earthy than outright sour. I taste cranberry, apple cider, and a bit of cherry.

M-The feel is medium in heft with a very mild level of carbonation.

O-This is a good beer but not a great one. My notes say "interesting" but I can't pick out one thing about this beer that makes it better than others in the same category. Ho hum, I guess. (Maybe I'm just spoiled by the amount of good sour beer that is available these days?)
