2006 vintage. Simply can't wait to let it age.
Poured half of the bottle into a snifter. It's a honey-amber color with no head retention nor lacing (to be expected methinks). Clear and syrupy consistency.
Smell is extremely sweet: maple/honey and perhaps some licorice, as well as some fruits like plum. Actually reminds me of Sam Adams Triple Bock (a sensory experience as it's been about 10 years since I had one of those!).
Immediate taste is sweet as well (like caramel-covered raisins if there were such a thing...hmm, note to self: patent caramel-covered raisins), before moving on to some spiciness (a bit peppery) and then on to the high alcohol, which kicks in and warms the mouth and insides. Finishes pretty dry then.
Gonna have to save the other half til tomorrow (hopefully the vacuum-stopper thingy will work) because this is a dessert type brew in my mind, thus I can't drink a whole one! Great brew; will get some more to let age.

Fresh bottle, only a couple of months old
A- Pours clear and copper color with a very small fizzy head that disappears quickly, leaving nothing behind
S- big sweet malty aromas with notes of fresh bread, fruit cake, caramel, toffee, alcohol and dark cherries
T- very sweet caramel malt up front with a big hit of sweet brown sugar. sweet bread with some fruity notes mixed in, continuing into a sweet finish
M- thick and viscous body with low carbonation, foamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish, big alcohol warmth at the end
O- super sweet and definitely a sipper, but the sweetness does not overpower. Great sweet bread flavors that one would expect from a doppelbock. I'd love to get another bottle to see what some age does for it, but it drinks just fine fresh
