A very nice offering from a new CT brewer. A bit pricey, but it's not easy finding a bottle conditioned lager with this beer's combination of flavor and drinkability.

To me, this almost tastes like a rye beer; the spicy hop character is not something I'm used to in a lager, but it's something I could get used to. The hops combine very well with the skunky lager yeast, but none of the flavors overpower the others.

This is a really nice summer beer that's refreshing while having some backbone. I will certainly have to try the other offerings from Relic.

A: Pours a slightly hazy yellow with four fingers of white head that fades into a rocky cap with good lacing.

S: Clean, crisp biscuit malts dominate the nose with a slight hint of sweet fruit.

T: Biscuity flavors dominate here as well with some sweet light fruits coming through as well. There's a slight veggie flavor that comes through as the beer warms.

M: Light body with medium carbonation, this beer could be a little crisper.

O: An alright lager overall. Simple and clean, though I'd like a little more depth all around.

Brewer describes this as a "Pre-Prohibition Lager". Meaning a more traditional, flavorful American Lager as it might have tasted before post-prohibition techniques destroyed the American Pale Lager.

Foamy, frothy, bright golden yellow, hazy with a large white head that settles to 1/4 inch cap. A swirl easily revives it.

Smells of faint citrus spice, mild hops and graininess.

Tastes is easy, light and summery. The addition of flaked corn smooths it out. Lasting dryness, but not sharp. Thankfully, no lemon.

Easy on the tongue, easy drinking, but not thin. Sessionable.

I like it. The brewer also calls this his "Summer Beer", as it will be available all summer. Let's hope so!

Food Pairing: Try with grilled Steelhead Trout!

A - Color is a golden yellow and head pours pretty thick and recedes after a little time to a lasting thin head that leaves a small bit of lacing as you drink.

S - Mostly a citrous smell with a slight hoppiness.

T - Nice light taste which is great for warmer weather. Goes down smooth. When first poured cold from the fridge the bitterness from the hops is present (Not a bad thing at all). As the drink warms the bitterness recedes a little and brings out some other flavors as well.

M - Very smooth and easy to drink.

O - A great beer for the warmer summer months.

Pours Hazy unfiltered orange. Fluffy 2 finger head.

Aroma is spicy and citrusy with lager yeast also appearing underneath.

Citrusy flavor right off the bat that leads into a great spicy note that turns into a nice fruit finish that im thinking is from the yeast.

Medium bodied with average carbonation

This is one of the best lagers I've ever had. Lagers aren't typically what i reach for but this is something I'd drink from time to time.

Served on-tap at Relic Brewing Co. in Plainville, Conn.

A: Bright, golden yellow color with a slightly chilled haze beneath a one and a half finger head of tight, white carbonation. Left some decent, foamy lace.

S: Spicy, cooked grains with flashes of rye and herbal, grassy hops. Nice light, toasted malt aroma.

T: Toasted and slightly metallic grains hit up front before a wash of bitter, herbal and slightly citrusy hops comes through. The finish is bracing and zesty with hints of ginger and dense, musty spices.

M: Light-bodied with a slight yeasty chew and a well-carbonated palate. Easy-drinking all-malt lager.

O: An interesting, golden, pale lager with hop and spice additions that would lend itself nicely to paring with citrus fruits, as the crew was doing with cut up oranges tonight. The 5.4% ABV would be very very sessionable, especially at an outdoor BBQ with some jerk chicken.
