Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter. Purchased at the brewery.
The beer is a cloudy hazy golden straw hue with minimal bleached white head foaming up and fading gradually to an edge layer. Some suspended particles in the beer.
The aroma is fruity with white grape and maybe peach? Also bready yeast and a little musty hit mixed in with gentle spicy clove. Aroma is complex and overall appealing to the nose.
First sip reveals an average body with gentle carbonation that tickles my palate slightly on each mouthful. Smooth easy drinking texture.
The flavor is what was anticipated from the nose. I get some bready sconelike yeast up front and then again fruity notes with the white grape and generally sweet yet almost tart citrus. There is also some musty farm blanket hit and a little bit of peppery rye mixed in followed by a very dry finish.
I dont get any real booze hits and find the beer very easy to drink. Complex and interesting, a nice saison made right here in CT.
Well done Mark!

Third strike for Relic. I tried Thrice and Duality on different occasions, and both were infected. I'm a glutton for punishment I guess as I gave this one a shot as well. Guess what? Another sour, awful-smelling mess. One sip and it went down the drain. I've heard great things about them, and love supporting the breweries in my state, but until they get their quality control straightened out I won't be purchasing any Relic beers from my local package store any time soon. If this had only happened once I could just chalk it up to a bad batch, but three different beers on three different occasions? Something is clearly not right at Relic.

Poured into tulip

A: Pale to golden yellow with lots of visible carbonation and a white, fine, quickly dissipating 1 finger head.

S: Aromas of clove and various spices, possible hints of banana and bubble gum. Slight earthy/musty smells as well.

T: Belgian yeast right up front. Spicy and bready with hints of citrus peel. Tiny hints of rye as well.

M: Slightly prickly carbonation in a medium body and mouthfeel.

O: Very good saison from Relic here, Field Hand can certainly complete with other top tier American saisons.

Poured chilled from growler into the pint glass this beauty has a pale golden hue with a bit of haziness and a very healthy fuzzy white head. This is followed by a nice cascading lace. The aroma is a clovey wheat and a touch of bubblegum with a hint of alcohol-nutmeg spice. The flavor follows with pretty much the same ideas. There's a nutmeg clove spice along with some bubblegum and subtle citrus lemon hops. This stuff is pretty yeasty and presents a medium body with a peppery, generously carbonated feel. Full lusciousness results for this home run saison.
