There's just something about this little brewery. I'm not a huge fan of Wit or extra spice in my beer, but this concoction is singularly delicious. The citrus rind and overall spice give this Gardener very distinct taste. It really does make me think of eating fresh peas from the shell. Tasty and unique, to be sure!

650ml bomber poured into tulip 21/10/15
A slight haze in a golden yellow body, tiny particles throughout, bubbles of all sizes and speeds but just a finger of short lived foam that leaves no lace
-second pours full of sediment, still not much for head or lace
S floral honey, wit like spicing, hints of fruit here and there but I'd never guess rhubarb, strawberry, and cherry, maybe a little mint of all things, earthy and sweet bread come out as it warms
T honey stays strong, hard to place spice, faint citrus, hints of fruit but I wouldn't suspect it was actually brewed with any, not all that far from the nose
M lighter side of medium, fluffy from the bubbles, fairly slick on the palate and a little sticky on the lips, honey and spice linger
O not sure where the spice is coming from but its hard to miss, decent brew that I feel like i should be drinking under a hot sun
Interesting concept and a decent beer but I wouldn't leave the community to try it

650ml bottle, nice to see more of Village's seasonals heading north - more sales are a good thing, right?
This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one fat finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some creaky land-bridge profile lace around the glass as things slowly dissipate.
It smells of musty floral and grassy hop bitters, white pepper and lemongrass spice, somewhat edgy yeast, and some grainy, crackery pale malt. The taste is bready, grainy pale malt, aged lemon and white grapefruit rind, still meddling earthy yeast, clover honey, a wee vegetal astringency, ethereal pepper and coriander spice, and more heady grassy, leafy, and floral hoppiness.
The bubbles are fairly low-key and unobtrusive in their gentle frothiness, the body just on the light side of a typical middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a pleasing airy creaminess arising just after the get-go. It finishes off-dry, the now more assertive malt backbone setting down roots, and letting the green garden hops and niggly spice prance about.
Overall - hey, what can I say, this is a pleasant and approachable paean to Village Brewery's (broader) 'hood, and good on 'em for appreciating and encouraging it as such. Having been to the actual brewery, however, I'm guessing that the locations of the supporting community gardens are far more than a stone's throw away - rusty hubcaps being not yet trendy or hipster-approved.

Tasting notes: Bright lemon yellow hue with considerable white fizz. Aroma is super floral, huge fresh cut flower note with some lemon and coriander. Palate recalls floral chewing gum (Thrills), grass, lemon rind, with a honey-like sweetness in the background. Some biscuit-like malts. A slight earthiness. Unique brew. Fizzy but with a thicker than expected coating mouthfeel. The special ingredients are a tad too prominent.

Props to joemcgrath27 for including this howler in our latest cross-Canada trade.
A - Pours a hazy golden colour, finger of head with little retention and no real lacing.
S - Musty grains, toasted bread, grassy hops, hints of citrus and a touch of butter caramel.
T - Flavour profile is nicely balanced offering up grassy hop notes with hints of bitter citrus and a healthy dose of toasted grains and bready malts. A little caramel comes through alongside a sour citrus note that lingers.
M - A tad thin, but still a solid carbonation level given the time that would have passed from the time it was bottled to the time it was consumed (and all the miles travelled in between). GOs down smooth and finishes wet.
O - This howler held up insanely well in a cross-Canada trade. An easily sessioned APA that nicely captures the essence of the style, while also boasting a unique concept of 'locally procured' ingredients. Super stoked to have had the opportunity to try it, and am hopeful I will get the opportunity to try more of their brews in the future.

From the unique 1L growler/bottle into the 'Village Brewery' pint glass.
Appearance: Golden yellow with a single-finger off-white head. Very good clarity on the initial pour, but the low filtration results in a lot of particulates in later pours. Visible, active carbonation bubbles.
Aroma: Light spicy, grassy and citrus hop aromas. I personally found the grassy aromas to stand out most, well-balanced with a light bready malt aroma.
Taste: Grain and straw malt with a light sweetness off the initial sip. Ends with a rounded hop bitterness - hints of spice and citrus. Not pronounced, but well balanced and fitting to the style.
Mouthfeel: The larger particles in the beer (due to the unfiltered nature) and the appropriate carbonation lend a nice light to medium body with a creamy mouthfeel that coats the pallet and lingers. Again, not overly forward, but extremely drinkable with a nice balance.
Overall: A creative, balanced, and drinkable ale that anyone can enjoy. Bready/straw malt sweetness, with a rounded hop ending that is tied together by a creamy medium-light body. Try this local offering - you won't be disappointed.

1L growler.
Appearance- Pours a foggy pale amber with a finger of frothy white head.
Smell- citrus hops, lemon, biscuity malts.
Taste- Very similar to the aromas with the citrus hops, lemon, and biscuity malts. There is also a touch of wheat at the end. A pleasant mild bitterness comes off in the finish.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Perhaps a tad thin.
Overall- I like the concept of Village collaborating with local gardeners to concoct this brew. An APA that has a good flavour profile. The body could use some improvement but otherwise a brew that sticks to Village's core values.
