Our classic. Unmistakeable in character and freshness.

Its exceptionally spicy aroma and the use of selected hop varieties stand for the good taste. Come what you want.

A golden yellow, slender beer in Pilsener Brauart with a perfect head of foam, a full-bodied-soft and fresh taste and a light hop flower. The strong, pleasantly hop bitter character makes it so unique.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was a nice very pale brew. The head poured big white and fluffy. It also had great lacing qualities. The smell was kinda bready/yeasty. The taste was off to me. It was very bittier on the finish and grainy. I will not buy again.

Pours brilliantly clear, light pale; big puffy white head, nice thick dense cap persists a while.

Nose is light; mostly very light cereal and grain notes, the hops are lightly earthy with a touch of herbal, but subdued like when you have expired cooking spices; aroma there but very mute, the malt notes actually out shine the hops.

Taste is similar, pale malts outshine the hops, it’s not Helles territory as the hops are still more prominent, just expected a tad more, the malt leans more cracker like here, touch of cereal, hops get a touch grassy.

Light body and incredibly clean drinking, near perfect dry finish with a low moderate amount of bitterness, beers like this define drinkability for me.

(500 ml can, 07/07/2024; purchased single off shelf at State Line yesterday... poured into my 0.5 l Weihenstephaner mug)

L: brilliantly-clear, pale gold liquid; thick, tight, tall, off-white foam... while topping the glass a few times, the foam gets rockier... laces in bands, top to bottom

S: hit of floral, spring-timey hops immediately followed by a bold bready, doughy malt... after a few beats, some beachy-sandy notes??... tangy yeast undertones drenching the lot, with a sharp, spicy accent up the middle... overall has much dimension, quite potent

T: not as much spice up front, mostly crackery, bready malt, with an earthy, grassy finish... spice (capsicum-like warmth) slowly emerges during the tail end of the finish, fully blossoming in the aftertaste... floral and spicy, bordering on Tripel-like when matched against the cereal-like malt... black pepper and herb infused sourdough over time... just pummels the palate with its intensity

F: much silkiness from the hops and yeast (and lagering); not so much round as it is relatively thick... the perceived 'heat' from the spiciness of the flavors does certainly translate into a sharpness on the tongue and near smoky excitation of the roof of the palate... lovely smoothness to its body, but leaves me craving for a sharper snap, though that might be too much

O: I'm pretty sure I had this once before, a flip-top bottle of some indeterminable age, and it wasn't that bad, but this was great... not incredibly unique, but has a certain distinctiveness... I bought a 4 pack and I'm glad I did (2261)

I've had this before from both tap and from bottle. It looks nice enough, but I just can't get myself to be a huge fan of these Northern German pilsners, at least not in comparison to southern German/Bavarian beers. Has that typical Northern German pils "herb" and bitterness. Not bad by any means if that's your thing though.

Every once in a while I still find a rare German brew I have not tried yet. Before I spend my hard earned money on one, I do a quick online search. Flensburg Pilsener appears to have quite a reputation!

I like it. While the color and the body are not super impressive, its elegant finish with lingering hop-centric bitterness is extremely pleasant. Most other German Pilsner wannabe brews tend to have either an exceedingly overpowering maltiness or a spicy lemongrassy finish which ruins a lager for me. Flensburg, while only just another Pilsner-style lager, managed to find the right type of hops and hopping process that makes their beers stand out of the kraut haha.

A very nice Pilsner style imposter ;)

16oz can

Pours two fingers of white head into my Willi. Retention is average, and the head fades within a couple minutes, leaving a solid film. Lacing is awesome. Body is pale yellow, crystal clear, with a modest amount of bubbles coming up. Looks really good.

Nose has a wonderful malty nose, with notes of honey and flowers. A touch of noble hops. Smells on the maltier side of the style, which is not uncommon. Aroma is very nice.

Flavor comes in with a solid hit of honey, some bread, and an assertive dose of spicy hops that creeps in more over time. Tastes wonderful.

Carbonation is pretty high. Very light bodied. A medium-low bitterness balanced nicely with a small perceived sweetness. Finishes crisp and well-attenuated. Great little mouthfeel.

Stupid drinkable.

A lovely, clean Pilsner, with a generous flavor.

Poured from a swing top bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a small head of puffy white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading slowly and leaving a touch of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a grainy smell mixed with a little bit of caramel and some light toast. Along with these aromas comes a touch of dough and a hint of herb.
Taste – the taste begins with a crisp cracker and grainy malt flavor paired with a touch of caramel and a little bit of herb. The grain and herb get a bit stronger as the taste advances, all while the caramel fades. At the same time a touch of hay joins in at the end, leaving one with a very crisp taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather light and crisp with a higher carbonation level. Great for the style and the feel, making it a very easy sipper.
Overall – A quite nice, refreshing, and crisp pilsner. Well-crafted overall.

S- cracker malt, honey, floral & spicy hops

Cool bottle...loving the lid. Great for drinking in taxis and saving for another day. Which I have actually just done. So possibly it does not now have quite as much life and carbonation as it should. So I will try to review this again ; )

Look and aroma are nothing special and kind of typical...aroma is kind of musky. Lots of German punchy hops flavour. Quite bready. It's the definition of a good German pilsner, but not quite as good as a great one like Radeberger.

I tried a 0.33L bottle of this beer that I bought from a convenient store near the Brandenburg gate in Berlin. It poured a clear golden with white head that eventually dissipated and did not leave much lace. The scent had grain and malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced an easy to drink with grain presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.
