Poured this 12 oz. brown ceramic flip-top bottle into a plisner flute. Bottle was dated 7-10-06. Pop-gun "pop" when opened.

Body was a crystal clear pale golden-yellow. Head was very tall and required waiting a few minutes in order to pour the remaining beer into the large glass.

Smell was of crisp, clean grains. Leafy hop aroma. Very appetizing. No skunkiness.

Taste was sweet, rich malts and raspy noble hops. A great combination and an awesome pilsner representation. Bitter, crispy, dry finish.

Mouthfeel was smooth and rounded, yet zesty and scrubbing at the same time. Medium carbonation. Very nice, what I hope for in a Euro pilsner.

I am sad that I only purchased one. Extremely drinkable, perhaps my new favorite pilsner. I will search for this one.

This is one of the best German Pilsners that I have ever had and I have had a lot of them. Overall smell is clean with some herbal hops mixed in. The taste has a lot of flavor and with herbal hops that bitter it up very well. Very balanced with a malty sweetness but I really like the hops. Overall hop profile makes this beer an amazing German Pils. One of the best I have had and I don't think that it gets the respect that it deserves b/c most reviewers don't get it fresh. Try this one.

After trying hundred if not thousands of beers from all over the world, I have noticed that certain countries/regions do certain styles better than almost everyone else. In my opinion, the Germans do the pilseners best, and this is one of my favorite German pilseners.

Pours a lovely yellow with a thin white head with the smell of any and everything you would want from a pilsener. In taste, both hops and malt are extremely prevalent yet balanced and the carbonation is medium which compliments the balanced ingredients quite well. Mothfeel is maybe a bit too thick and smooth for a pils, but even though it is the beer's worst quality it is still quite good.

Been drinking this one for years and I still get excited when I get my hands on this one.

11.2 oz. bottle poured into pilsener
(01.04.15 best by date)

L: clear as water, light yellow, very pale with a thick marshmallow of a head, over 1 inch of pure white that sticks and laces and is making me tear up -- THIS is a beer! bubbles continue to cascade up through the column and keeps a thick skin on top ... so much foam. not a hint of amber.

S: grain ice cold; a hint of grass; opens up into some nice bready malt notes as it warms

T: perfect balance of sharp hop bite and sweet bready malt ... very green grassy spicy hops; lightly toasted barley -- really tastes good even when ice cold (taste is there before the nose opens up)

F: perhaps just a hair light, watery ... otherwise, fantastic -- plenty of carbonation and enough weight

O: those German purity laws rock! LOVE this brew, and while it's just a twinge over-priced, this brew is going into my permanent rotation. it's simply what beer should be about -- no gimmicks, nothing tricked up or blinged out, just water, barley, hops and yeast in perfect concert

It is my third beer Flensburger, I enjoyed it after humiliating to caifanes in sudden strike. In the appearance theres a brilliant golden color, thin head of foam that look like cotton; the smell is citrus, some essences of orange and plum; in the taste, first is sweet malt with an earth hoppy end, very tasty; the mouthfeel is bitter and sweet, with a ligneous of wood, very refreshing, body and medium gasification; in the drinkability is the best flensburger than I have tested, good to enjoy with food or alone.

Best by 7-10-2006

Appearance: Clear, pale yellow. Copious amounts of carbonation are present. Thick crop of bleached white head. Lacing is great. I'd give this an even higher rating in this category if the color was more "golden" in nature.

Aroma: Biscuity malts. Doughy malts. Herbal and floral hops. Nice blend. I like sniffing this one.

Taste: Solid bready, biscuity, crackery like malt base. This is speckled with pleasant spicy, herbal, hay-like hop qualities. Nice combination of hops and malt.

Mouthfeel: Solid level of carbonation. Gives a good "scouring" of the palate. Medium-full body. Alcohol is unnoticeable.

Drinkability. I find great pleasure in finding new (to me) examples of good pilsners. And this is one of them. This would be great with a variety of foods as well as on the back patio on a hot summer (or spring) day.

Pours a golden straw, as clear as an unmuddied lake of deepest summer. Dense white foam fills the glass, then gradually settles to a solid rocky head that forms big sticky patches of lace. Saaz and hallertau nose with a pilsener malt background -not very strong- but a nice honey aroma comes through as it warms. Pale and crisp pilsener flavor that hints at sweetness. Spicy saaz and noble hop bitterness in the aftertaste with a surprising lack of dryness; these flavors remain strong into the finish but never become overpowering. The carbonation is mild and the body is thin, making it very easy to swig on.

Got this cause the bottle was foxy as all hell. Clear golden color with a big rocky white head. Leaves a lot of lacing. Smells "noble." Tastes creamy with a noble hop finish that gives it a nice dry finish. Enjoyed this one. Should try their other beers.

Poured into a small stein glass. Crystal-clear straw-gold color with lots of fine bubbles and a huge, frothy head. Aroma is faint at best, just a light grainy malt. Excellent flavor, though. Good initial malt, with substantial bitterness and a delicate floral hop flavor. Very dry finish. Light bodied.

Except for an unexceptional smell, this is a very good German pils, on the bitter end of the spectrum.

Another pleasant surprise in my mug tonight. This pils pours a very pale golden color with white head. Nose is clean with some herbal hops in there. Palate offers a nice dose of flavor though with herbal hops that bitter it up nicely, balanced with a gentle malt sweetness. Overall hop character makes this beer what it is. No skunk in the bottle either. Extremely drinkable.

The beer poured into the glass clear pale straw with a white frothy head which lasted very well to lace the glass.

The aroma was malty. The malt presence even had a fruity aspect of golden raisins. Some light spicy hops were notable.

The flavor was malty with a crisp lightly spicy hop presence. The malt was balanced by a strong bittering, but still came off with a raisin depth of character.

The finish was dry with lasting spicy bittering long and growing stronger into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a moderate carbonation level. Quite a crisp and drinkable beer, a nice malty presence and a strong hop backbone.

12 ounce flip top bottle.

A beautiful pilsenser pale yellow with a two finger fluffy white head. The head lingered nicely and left a thin layer of foam after several minutes.
The smell is sweet and bready.
I really like the taste, a slight bitter start with a mellow smooth finish.
This is a delicious easy-drinking beer. This bottle from my regular trading buddy and I would consider picking up a case in the future.

Flensburger Pilsener has a thin, white head and a hazy, yellow appearance, with some lacing, streaming bubbles, and little brown flecks floating about. The aroma is of sweet, cracker, barley malt, and the taste is similar with some paper and a nice, fairly strong hop bitterness in the middle-to-end of the sip. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Flensburger Pilsener finishes crisp, clean, easy drinking, and mostly dry. Overall, this is really nice.

Faintly sweet aroma full of pungent spicy and floral hops. Big, fluffy, bright white head left fine strands of lace. Transparent, pale golden beer holds clouds of briskly rising bubbles. Taste is full of tangy floral hops with a mild bitter bite throughout. Lightly sweet and fairly crisp beer. Mouthfeel is light, but the hops keep it from getting too watery. A delicate, refreshing Pilsener.

A - 2" dense white head. Very good retention. Patchy, thick lacing. Extremely pale gold with tons of carbonation racing through it.

S - Full on bready malts. Hay. Soft, grassy hop.

T - Toasted bread. Biscuity malts. Delicate hops. Excellent bit of ongoing bitterness in the finish. Faint zingy lemon. Crisp, dry finish.

M - Medium body. Between mid and high carbonation.

D - What a great surprise. This is a very good pilsner.

Flensburger Pilsener poured a very pale gold with a large head and nice lacing. The smell was loaded hops. The taste was super dry, maybe the driest pils I have ever had. Loads of fresh hops. Mouthfeel was nice and the the drinkability was good as well. This was a very nice pils. I enjoyed it a great deal. Very crisp.

I found this in a Moscow kiosk. Brown 33cl stubby with a swing top and a gold and yellow label featuring a viking ship sailing in front of a castle tower. Purity law applies. Best before 11/1/05, I opened it on 8/9/05.

Beautiful pour: clear deep gold under a two finger snow white head with excellent contour, superb retention and very nice lacing. The smell is also divine, full of spice and pine, with just a hint of metal. The mouth is very prickly and fairly light. The taste is a bit mild on the malt, slightly sweet and a bit like oatmeal. The hops dominate, however - tinny, spicey, dry and bitter. Nice espresso flavors emerge in the finish. The aftertaste is mild and only slightly bitter. Very enjoyable example of the style.

Very well balanced with dry, cracker like malt flavor. Finishes clean. Hop bitterness is quite restrained for a northern German pils, but this lets the mild malt flavor come forward more. I could keep this beer on hand at all times. People who find pilsners boring should first have an American macro-lager, then follow up with a good (fresh) German pils like this one, and the flavor and mouth feel are immediately apparent.

Had a couple of random offerings that I decided to crack open, this one pours into the glass a nice golden hay color with a huge head of nearly three inches that never seems to let itself go down coating the sides with some nice lacing and tons of carbonation. Aroma is light grains, bready notes, hints of l;ight clove maybe and a touch of some earthy grass notes. Nothing crazy but it does the job. Very light and clean flavor, crisp, refreshing nothing out the ordinary in any way. Was easy to throw down with a clean and refreshing aftertaste, overall not bad at all could easily but down two or three.

Got this classic 500mL bottle at The Drink Store in Stoneybatter.

Pours a light pale/clear color with a nice 1.5 finger off-white bubbly head. Some carbonation in the pour and the head drops down to a nice light bubbly film.

Smells of a pilsner/lager with some very light fruits/hops/bitter tones. Definitely light though overall with some sweet notes detected at the end.

For a light, in appearance, beer there is actually a few things going on here which is nice in the taste. The light citrus notes come first, then a bit of sweet hops, and then finished with a slight bitterness. Nice. Reminds me alot of some Czech pilseners too.

This isn't a super-filling mouthfeel beer, but there is enough going on that it finishes nice and makes you want to take another sip and isn't too full.

I could have another one of these and would definitely see how if the weather was warmer in the sun I could down a couple of these no problem.

Great beer in a swing-top bottle as well. Poured with a nice, large, foamy, frothy, fluffy, white head that lasts a while and lots of lace. Color is a clear yellow with some nice bubble trails. Aroma is bitter hop, malt, wet grain. Flavor is fresh beer, malt, hop with bitter dominating sweet and in a very good way. Great body and carbonation. Finish is like flavor and has some legs. Session beer.

This is one of the best German Pilsners I think that I've ever had. The beer pours out as a nice golden yellow color with a decent fizzy white head on top. The smell of the beer has a subtle grassy aroma that is just faint enough for me to really enjoy this brew. The taste of the beer is a little earthy but had a sharp hop bite to it that really impressed me. The mouthfeel is smooth and had just enough carbonation. Overall very nice brew.

Got this beer and poured into a pilsener glass. Had about an inch of head and a clear, golden color. The smell was almost hard to detect, although the hops came through. It had a sweet taste, almost like bubblegum, but the malt came through. Decently carbonated beer that gives a good bite if that's what you want. The Flensburger's a decent, drinkable pilsener. I'm not overly fond of pils, but this one was surprisingly tasty. Good thing to give a whirl.

Pop-top bottle. #2 bier review in Germany. The "plop" the website advertises is heard as soon as the cap is popped, nice acitve carbonation in the bottle.
Poured into a Pils Glas, extremly light pale color, light straw, head is really the calling card in the appearence. Light, fluffy even so-light-tan color head, leaving delicate lacing. As the head eventually settels, light bubbles slowly rising through the glass.
Smells like a solid German Pils. Light malts, the high mineral content in the water definatley adds a disctinct note of bitterness. The light hoppiness provides the lightest not of citrus, the ends abruptly with a bite of bitter hop spiciness.
Taste is pleasantly more complex than anticipated. Toasted malt nuttiness upfront, some sweetness akin to light fruitiness, the finish is clean and the light nuttiness is left lingering on the palate. After several sips, a bit of spiciness is left in your throat, that definatly makes another sip follow quickly.
Drinkability is good, sip after sip is light, refreshing, nothing out of the box, just a good standard German Pils. Here in Germany, i miss my Victory Prima Pils, but this is good. German beer is a study in standards, and achieving maximum flavor from the malt profile, with a heavy reliance on hops as a bittering agent. I would pair this with maybe a delicate shrimp/seafood dish, vorspeisen with breads, maybe even a nutty-flavored humms spread would complemet the nutty malt flavor.

500 ml bottle from somewhere in Germany

Pours golden with large white head that slowly fades to thin layer. Aroma is spicy hops and bready malt.

Taste is malty, with presence of spicy and grassy hops that gradually increase their dominance towards the finish, dry herbal bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation.

An excellent companion on a hot spring day.
