Light brown color. Average light beige head,
In the smell malt caramel burnt. More burnt. A bit sweet, but the burnt notes balance it.
Almost the same in the taste, with again burnt and a back sweetness. The sweetness is more strong, maybe too much, in the aftertaste. Where there are also some honey notes. Sweet.
Quite light in body.

Got this one in a decorative growler in a recent BIF. Brought it out on Labor Day to share with the family. Served cold and poured into a couple pint glasses. This one was consumed on 09/07/2009.
The pour was off from the start. Still, motionless with only a touch of light carbonation on the top of the glass. I new we were in trouble. Nice honey color to it though with some darker touches around the sides that served it quite well. Aroma was decent, very sweet with lots of caramel and honey notes as well as lots of touches of nuts as well. Warming almost brings out a touch of fruit now. But the flavor really falls off. It seems as though it comes across musky and stale, the fact that it is flat does not help at all. A wash of bready malts, touches of grain and a hint of caramel all seem to miss and this quasi wheat and fruit note comes in, with a wet cardboard flavor. Not working out at all. The flavor was a mess and this really caused it to be semi undrinkable and nearly a drain pour for me.
Overall it may have been an old growler, though it hissed when opened and the date on it was three months from now. It just did not work for me. Maybe next time.

disappointing. tasted watery and insipid. It lacked that "wow" factor that I was expecting from a fancy beer in an attractive bottle. It wasn't offensive, just rather boring and uninspired.

Mouth feel, aroma and appearance were fine. It was just lacking in taste, quite frankly.

A. Good colour and clarity for style with fair head retention.

S. Little smell, but nothing unpleasant.

T. Tastes good, but really a little thin, and not as full of flavour as I was expecting.

M. Not as smooth as I would have liked but pretty good to be fair.

O. I had quite high hopes for this, but it was really quite disappointing. Very easy to drink, and if it were on tap I could quite happily session it, but nothing to get excited about.

A- clear, copper, amber. Small to medium bone white head that lasted a good bit. Light lacing.

S- not much of a nose. Malty and bready. Clean. Light roast.

T- like the nose, malty and bready. Raisiny sweet.

M- thin, light.

O- just ok. Nothing special. Won't be purchasing again.

I bought it because of the cool bottle, but I definitely wasn't impressed with the beer. It tastes like a watered down heineken dark. Skunky flavor, little mouthfeel. No malt, no hops, just blah. Maybe this one sat on the shelf too long, but I won't buy this again.

Smooth and malty, but a little metallic. Not quite there flavour wise. Hops are almost non existent, and there’s an earthy yeast note on top of the metal. I don’t think I’d have it again.

Pours a clear amber brown with no head basically. Nose is way too sickly sweet malts. Not entirely pleasant. Flavor brings a bit of the same, but with a bit of an earthy tone and a slight leafy thing. Too much malt sweetness though. Feel is slick and sticky. Carbonation nips a bit at the tongue. Eh. This is okay. Like I said, too malty sweet. Pass

Flensburger Dunkel poured crystal clear copper/amber topped by a monumental white head. Aroma had notes of grass, herbs and apricots with bready notes emerging as it warmed. Sweet and bready with a bit of copper and a slight fruit taste. Medium body and carbonation.

This looks like a perfect octoberfest... too bad it's a dunkel. The malt flavors emerge as it warms. The last taste was better than the first.

Dark ruby to amber color. Smell consists of sweet malt sugars.

Typical lager flavor with added light toast notes and some sugar. Tastes okay, but it isn't drop dead gorgeous mouth erotica, just good.

Mouthfeel isn't all that notable, it is really that average.

As far as the dunkel world goes this beer certainly is on the lager end, so no confusion there. It has that character that is almost always in lagers due to there yeast, and then it has some of the darker malt and sweeter side that the Dunkel truck delivers.

Pours a medium amber with off white head that recedes quickly. Nose is a little toasty but not much else. Palate was surprisingly light, with a rather thin body, some toasty malt flavors that have just a suggestion of roastiness, and a modicum of hop influence thrown in there. Finishes light and easy to drink, but not very appetizing with interesting flavors to crave on the next sip. Boring.

Flip-top 33cl bottle in Mommseneck (Haus of 100 Biers) on 17th Jan 2014.

Dark amber to brown body, off white head that produced some impressive lacing.

Malts rule the whole beer: mild, semi-sweet molasses give the brew a pleasant aroma and they also impart flavour into a body that was disappointingly thin. The bodies lack of depth shouldn't come as a surprise though, most German Dunkel beers I've had have been weak in the body texture and almost watery.

This is one of the better Dunkel beers I've had though, so don't be put off by my complaint about the body depth.

This is a made in Germany Dunkel Lager. I might have set my expectations for this beer too high. I poured from the bottle into the appropriate glasswear and noticed it was a little lighter than I was expecting. Not an issue though. The smell is weak, but the notes you'd expect are more or less present. Taste wise, it was seriously lacking. Just like the smell, the flavor was also mute. Mouthfeel was watery at best. Very drinkable though. I found myself downing the bottle in about half the time I would normally drink a glass of a similar style. If it was at a cheaper price point (my bottle set me back $3), this would make a killer party / session beer. Unfortunately, with price taken into consideration, I feel this beer relies heavily on the coolness of the bottle and not the merit of the liquid inside.

Appearance was very good. Nice lacing and head retention. Brownish copper in color
Smell was pretty good. Lots of dry malt. Kind of metallicy.
Taste was not the best. I haven't had this style before, though so maybe its just me. Some malt taste, metallicy and it just tastes old.
Mouthfeel was good, with a bit of carbonation, and it was medium in feel.

Clear pale caramel brownish amber. Small fluffy capping of lightly yellowed foam soups up quickly then fades to an always present filmy yop and thin collar. A few spots and strings exist among the lace that sticks.

Aroma is nutty and wheaty with a minor bread tone of sweetness and a partial figgy note with dulled raisin and lemon.

Taste is quick and simple with a lowly sweetened breadyness of nut bread and a very light toasty dryness. Notes to a few fruity things dart through and stick with a malten slickness on the cheeks and palate late. Not much of anything really pops out in this one.

Feel is less then medium, clean, quick, and crispened, if not all together weak and thin, malts help carry it through some of its nature as it finishes. Other then that its bland and boring.

Nearly average in every way. But worthy enough for a glass full of drinkin'. I do like the cool little stubby swing top.

Flensburger Dunkel poured a brownish red color with a beige head from a brown twelve ounce swing top bottle. The aroma is okay, nothing special though, primarily malt. The flavor is kind of average, a bit estery, and some toasted or maybe slightly roasted malt. Worth a try.

Hazy dark copper, with few floating particles. Made 2 fingers of fluffy head with medium retention and leaving marks in the glass.
Malty and grainy aroma.
Similarly flavor of toasted malts, toffee and grains, hints of earthy and herbal hops. Mildly bitter with an almost absent aftertaste that has its lingering taste.
Light body and low carbonation.
Didn’t like much the taste of raw malt on it, but has its own character.

Thick and creamy beige head that clears to a little blotchy on top. Amber, caramel color .

Smells of caramel and cream.

Hint of hopps with a little leafy, grassy earthtones.

Light on the tongue and quite watery.

Litght on the tongue and quite watery as it goes down off the back of the tongue. Very thin a smooth.

Very easy to drink like water with a hint of flavor.

I don't prefer lighter lagers like this because of the lack of flavor, but I wouldn't turn one down if it was free.

See through toffee amber in color with a lot of red highlights. Thin just off white head. Aroma is sweet and sugary, of molasses and caramel malt, maybe a bit grainy, some hops there as well, though not pungent, maybe a bit earthy. More of the same in the taste, crisp clean malt, more caramel and dark sugars. Mouthfeel was a little dry, easy to drink.

Verdict: let down at first, I thought I bought a dunkel weizen until I tried it. But it grew on me after a bit, though it's nothing special. I wouldn't turn one away, but wouldn't seek another out either. A simple 'dark' lager.

Poured into pint glass, it showed dark copper with a head that lingered for only a moment. Smells malty and slightly spicy. Taste is a little watery and has a slightly coppery aftertaste.. I was disappointed and it reminds me of every other dark german beer you can find in a well-stocked supermarket. I could still drink this all day long watching football and eating standard bar food. Not great... but better than budweiser.

this beer poured a golden amber with a good bit of carbonation into a radeberger pilsner glass.

the smell was of bread and pitted fruits as well as banana.

the taste is a bit thin, being far less complex than the smell.

the mouthfeel is thin and carbonated.

this beer is ok to try, but i wouldn't seek it out.

I have to say I was always wondered about the little beers I would see all over but never got around to trying the until recently when a German friend bought me a sample pack. Don’t let the look of these little beers fool you and the fact I usually see it in gas and train stations. It is actually really decent beer. The dunkel was very weak in most characteristic to this style. The flavor and the aroma were very mild in the roasted qualities that I think a dunkel should have. There was some roastiness but just very faint. The feel was a little thin but not bad and it was definitely easy to drink. There was a great malt flavor however even though not roasted and a mild hop flavor.

Appearance: Clear, light amber in color, with a small white head, slight carbonation, and scattered broken lacing.

Aroma: The aroma is dominated by caramel and nutty accents, with slight herbal hops as well.

Taste: Opens with toasted malt notes, with a subtle sweet and nutty taste, followed by mild herbal hop notes. A mild bitterness lingers on well past the end of the taste.

Mouth feel: Smooth, pleasant, and full.

Drinkability/notes: Overall a pleasant, drinkable example.
